Hello,

Have never really thought of 'em much before, but now I've put 'em in my new rig...Lite-On drives are really, really good and they are very well priced! I decided to go with them after reading so much about them here on the forum. I have run both these drives hard since getting my rig built and they have rock-solid, super fast and quiet, too. And, although I have their DVD and CD-R/RW drives, can't help but think their "standard" CD-ROM drive will just as good for the money! :D

My votes go for AOpen or Affrey, always had good luck with those two brands, and horrible luck with the rest.

Although I will say that the Kenwood TrueX 72x drive is the MOST INSANELY FAST CD drive I have ever seen. Games install way fast and music extraction is insanely fast too.

Just a side topic...

I have a Digital Research 52x CD-Rom drive. It's still in the box and I keep it for backup just incase one of my CD-Roms die. I am currently using a Memorex 48x CD-Rom drive. When it spins up or reads off of a CD, the fan inside the CD-Rom drive is LOOOUUDDD!! As a matter of a fact, the CD-Rom fan makes more noise than my ThermalTake Volcano 6CU+. :(

So should I replace my loud Memorex with a low-brand name Digital Research 52x drive that I bought from CompUSA about a year ago for $40? :) I make alot of CD duplicates...so if the DR 52x can't read certain sections of a CD...then...;)

<< Another vote for the Afreey 56x. That thing is LOUD though. But with 24x DAE, who cares. :D >>

My Teac beats it.

40x DAE, 40x CD-RW playback and almost never slows down on cheap CD-R media.

<< Teac 540E. Excellent drive. >>

Yeah, it's nice. Especially with firmware 3.0A
