whats the best HSF for massive cooling for a processor?

i am not sure if they are same for AMD or Pentium but feed me your suggestions. i am running into a nightmare with a coolin system. i have thermaltake superorb, what you guys think about that HSF?

IMO these are the 3 best and many others will agree with me. Some say the fan on the SK-6 is really loud but i have one and its really not that bad.

thermalright SK-6
Alpha Pal 8045t
Swifttech MCX462

I know the SK-6 works on AMD cause i use it. and teh swifttech does also. not to familar with teh intell ones guessin they wll work also but dont quote me on that. and if you gettin a new processor and its intell. bettin you gettin a northwood and the stock cooling on thoes is amazing lets the 1.6a do 2.4 so you wouldent need to worry about it

yea i overclock im runnin my Athlon XP 1700+ (1.47) at 1.60 on a EpoX 8KHA+ mobo. good temps 42/48 with ok case cooling. should get a lil better once i get my 2 120 panflos in there. and im just usin some AS2 thats all thats betwen the HS and processor its been workin great for me.

Dino,

before you spend the cash on the HS&F, please heed the advise given in your other thread. The answer is in there somewhere 🙂

Be patient and the answer will come my friend!

120mm Panaflo is type of fan.

I'm using an Alpha 8045 w/ a 80mm Panaflo L1A and it cools very well and yes I am overclocking. The Sk6, alpha8045, and the ax7 will NOT fit on a P4. The p4 uses a different locking method. There are variants of the Swifttech and the Alpha that will fit on the P4. If you go to 2cooltek you can find really good heatsinks for both the Athlon and P4.

AX7 is apparently the best for AMD at the moment - I intend to get two of them for my (future) dual athlon, to be used with a quiet 80mm fan.

using 80mm fans in the diamond form on the sk6 just don't cut it as a sufficient cooler fan unless u have a delta screamer. using a quieter fan = less airflow = hotter temps. with this setup u'll prolly run temps in the high 40's.

i recommend the volcano 7+

I agree with this if you are going from the delta screamer to a slow 80mm, but I dropped my temps 6 degrees idle and full speed by going from a 24cfm 60mm to a 29cfm 80mm fan and the sk6. This is all on an XP 1600 OC'ed to 1800. I was able to remove the front intake fan in the case so I just have the rear fan and the power supply fan. It can't hurt to try it before you buy something else.

The AX-7 appears to be the best bang for your buck right now. I have an sk-6, and it is loud, but you get used to it after awhile.

dude i have 3 SK6 hsf units. i used one with my xp 1800+ setup but the delta 60mm was unacceptable due to the noice factor (I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THE NOISE OF A DELTA). i recently got a volcano 7+ and am VERY pleased with the noise/cooling levels (30 degrees celcius idle). i used the other 2 SK6 units for my server Tyan Thunder K7 mobo w/ 2 Athlon MP 1800+ chips. The reason that i even tolerate it in there is because its a server and i usually don't stay at the server terminal too long. so my advice is to go with the volcano 7+ for awesome cooling and low noise.
