What's the best first-person shooting game?

I'm wanting to get a first-person shooting game, and I'm wanting one that's not too far-out, like Doom. FarCry sounds pretty good to me, and it's inexpensive, too.

New: Battlefield 2 (multiplayer), Doom3/HL2 for single player
Old: Doom II, Wolf3D (single player), quake 1 thunderwalker (multiplayer)

Go for it, FarCry is good, just prepare to use tactics like staying under cover and being crafty Is your video card something semi-decent?

Yes my system will tear through the game (at least I think so). Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3400
Corsair XMS 1 GB PC3200
Leadtek Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT
Western Digital 160 GB 7200 RPM

mmmm... Maybe your system will be able to handle Doom II instead of Doom just kidding. I suggest Half-Life 2 and Farcry
