For those of you who like to buy olive oil for dipping bread, what's the best national brands? I've been buying some of the "cheap" stuff and it has a slight after-taste that makes me think I need to look for a new brand. What brands do you prefer?

This is a good question. I hate the "slimy" ones that leave a layer that feels like (im guessing) motor oil in your throat.

You..

dip your bread in oil...

and then eat it?

Hmm.. I guess.

And I suppose olive oil is better for you than slathering it in butter.

I prefer only one: Pompeian Extra Virgin.

TO ME most olive oils are virtually tasteless. Makes no sense to me to use that kind of oil.

carrabbas serves their bread with a plate of olive oil and herbs. It is really good. You just dip the bread into the mix. They mix it at the table, so you can tell them to +/- whatever you want.

What...never been to an Italian restaurant?

Anyways, I use the middle of the road (pricewise) Extra Virgin from Agata & Valentina (local Italian grocer).

I normally use publix extra virgin, I mince a clove of garlic put it at the bottom of a small dipping bowl, pur about 4TBsp of olive oil on top, then 2 Tbsp of red wine vinegar, about a quarter Tsp of oregano, and a dash of pepper, don't mix, use italian bread to dip (store bought or home made) I like the publix plus 5 itialian myself.
