Most diets you'll hear about have certain foods to avoid. If you prepare your meals yourself, you'll find that you know EXACTLY what is in them. The reason food in restaurants usually taste so good is because everything has been soaking in pig grease. Yum....

Ymmmmmn Baccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccon

I'm sorry what were we talking about?

Oh yeah that's right, Burgerville Sweet Potato Fries.

Don't skip meals. Building up a caloric defict on a regular basis is just plain bad for you, especially if you exercise.

Ya I have read this at numerous places and it's something I have started to do. Previously I rarely ate breakfast but now I get up every morning and do so. It's been oatmeal and nutri grain bars lately.

As for the meats, I know chicken is an OK one to eat, and I have read fish too. I do know that it's not so much what you eat but how much of it... but is there any other meat that is, say a little better for you then others?

All lean meats are good, especially if they are grilled. You should also try grilled Veggies like Italian Squash, Eggplant, Bell Peppers and Mushrooms. They taste great and are low in fat and calories.

BINGO

NO diet works in the long run. You have to change your lifestyle if you REALLY want to lose weight. I lost almost 100 pounds when I stopped eating fastfood, I work out 3-5 times a week, and just keep a eye on what I eat. I don't do anything I can't do the rest of my life.

Good plan and congrats on the loss! Your statement could not be more true.. it doesn't matter unless you can stick to it

When I started dieting I started out slowly cutting just one bad habit at a time.

No eating after dinner, then only one portion at dinner, then reduction of portions, then cutting out of fatty foods, started exercising, etc.

After 11 months I started a formal diet that would maybe kick my weight loss up a notch. I started the fat flush plan. This certainly is only for the hard core and those willing to spend some money on supplements(not the "bad for you" kind), but it is very healthy, suppresses hunger, and gives great results.

I never considered taking any supplements, and money is not really the issue here.... the overall result is all I care about. Rating less is what I have been doing with "regular" meals and am working on not eating out

I lost 50 lbs just by exercising and watching what I eat. I didn't want to do any fad diets that I would eventually fall off of and then gain the weight back.

Best advice !

Just do what you're doing right now and cut back slowly on the things that you know are not good for you and lost not just weight, but fat too. I think that if you need to lose a third or more of your body weight, it should take at least 2/3 years. Just eat heartily, more vegegtables, exercise more, drink TONZ of water and excercise for about 10 mins before bed and you will burn more calories while sleeping and help ur metabolism.

Exactly. Use your knowledge/research/FACT to come up with a lifestyle change that will work for you long-term, and factors in all of your health concerns. Exercise is a must. Water = your friend. Basically, do your research, and make up your own mind on what to do.

Personally, I've done atkins, and not atkin$®. I don't buy into the "hype". the reason i did induction was to break the carb cravings, and it worked. I quit counting anything, I just happen to still be in ketosis with my new eating habits. I just eat more non-starchy veggies, eat some fruit a day, cut out as much sugar as possible, don't eat white breads, and exercise regularly. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but induction does work. any lifestyle change takes willpower, and if you don't have any don't complain that you're not losing weight. If you truly, really, want to lose weight, do so YOUR WAY according to YOUR HEALTH and YOUR SCHEDULE. There is no "magic" diet. The fact is losing weight takes a lot more effort than gaining it, and you have to realize that. Once you understand that, yes it will suck, and yes you will lose weight if you endure it, it makes it that much greater once you accomplish it. Think of every pound lost as something to be proud of and to encourage you to continue. Also, don't over-weigh yourself. Limit it to like once a week under controlled conditions that are the same every time. (for ex. wake up, take a leak, weigh yourself).
