What's the best deal now on a 37-42" plasma/lcd screen?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp...product&id=1158318442758&ref=10&loc=01 - Westinghouse 42" LCD on sale this week at BB online and B&M for $999.

Also check into Vizio tv's. They are definitely on the budget end, but are only sold in limited places online. B&M stores are typically limited to places like Costco and Sam's Club.

EDIT: Not sure what you'll find in the 1080i range, but for a TV that is 37"-42", 720p is definitely fine. You may not even notice a resolution difference between 1080i and 720p with a TV that size.

For 1080i I think you're pretty much limited to CRT or CRT RP. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Plasma / DLP / LCD are going to be progressive native res.

there are LCD's that do 1080i. I meant 1080p above though.

I am still not sure what to go with (it's for my boss and our HR director as well right now, and I am trying to learn as I go for me....although I am thinking 40" CRT Sony WEGA for myself).

I would wait. LCD prices are still falling.

I just upgraded from a 27" CRT that I've had for 10 years to a 32" 1080i LCD. I found that 32" was really the sweet spot for the most satisfaction for your money. It's a lot easier finding good deals on 32" televisions, and the size is pretty sweet for anyone that has been using smaller screens.

Buying a 1080p television is definitely going to send you over the $1k mark though, if I remember correctly.

vizio seems not as well made in fit and finish, and the video quality is lower...but that may be the store doing that.

The main person is coming from a 32" Sony WEGA CRT and this is for bedroom viewing, the other I don't know...they just want a wall-mounted TV now.

I am looking for two director's of our company that know I can find good deals. They both put $1000 budgets on this purchase.

I told them I don't know much about LCD/Plasma other than LCD is the better technology.

This certianly isn't necessarily true. Both technologies are very, very close right now, with each having it's own distinct advantages and disadvantages.

Waiting for prices to fall is always a catch 22, but I do expect LCD prices to keep going down tremendously. It won't be long before you can't find a CRT in any retail stores, only LCD's. I personally think LCD's will most likely drop by another 10-20% by the end of this year, but that is complete speculation by myself and judged by my keeping watch of TV prices over the past few years.

To the OP, if you did indeed mean that you wanted 1080p and not 1080i, there are two problems with that. The first being that you most likely won't be able to find 1080p in a screen size that small right now. Even if you did, the second problem is the price. The cheapest 1080p screen that I can recall seeing recently was around $1500, and that was a 50" Samsung DLP set, definitely not a wall hanger 🙂. There may be cheaper ones out there right now (Vizio possibly, but you've already sworn them off), but someone else will have to point it out.

The Vizio is fine.
I had one.
Coming from watching SD to watching HD, any HD will be 100x better.
But SD on any HDTV is be crap unless you have a CRT HDTV then the SD will be acceptable.

The best deal on a 1080P TV right now is the Westinghouse 37" but good luck on finding one in stock and that TV does not have an ASTC tuner.

BTW, I have had the Vizio and currently have the Westy.

Agreed, I would also wait. Check out Olevia, Westinghouse and Sceptre.

I've seen Westinghouse 37" 1080p with HD tuner for $999 locally but that's pretty rare.
