My friend is looking for a 256MB Unbuffered stick of DDR. He'll be overclocking the bus and would like to run as high as possible at CAS 2-2-2. Mushkin has PC2400 CAS 2-3-3. Is there anything better out there?

Well if price is no biggie, get Corsair PC2400 CAS 2...

Micron PC2100 CAS 2 can OC quite well (One guy got his to 190mhz stable) and is considerably cheaper...

The Corsair basically garantees speeds up to 150mhz (300DDR), the Crucial is 133 (266)...

Crucial will almost always do 160mhz at least...

From their site:
CM64SD256-2400C2
300 MHz
256MB
32Mx64
184 DIMM
CAS 2.0
unbuffered
16Mx8
CM64SD256

Thats all it tells ya... so I can't say for sure. I'd say more than likely yes though.

Oh crap, I just remebered the Micron is CAS2.5. 99.9% of the modules will do CAS2 though...

I beg to differ. At least one of my two sticks of Crucial PC2100 won't even run cas2 stable at stock speeds, and cant even handle 137 MHz at less agressive memory timings. I haven't tried swapping one stick out to see which one is the culprit, because I wouldn't know what to do once I found the bad egg. Who would buy it?

figure out which on it is and return it under warranty. Notice he said almost always. Every company is going to make a bad stick.......its the performance of the good sticks i'm looking at.

The Crucial is good, but if money is no object, get the guaranteed Corsair stuff. If money is important then Crucil s/b fine in most cases.

Well, considering that they rate it as cas 2.5, I don't see how I could return it under warranty if it didn't run cas 2. And they don't guarantee that they overclock any certain amount either.
