What's the best compression program to use? Winzip is the most popular but which one does a better job of making your file size smaller?

I second WinRAR as well. But if you don't mind a bit of command line, BZIP2 works very well.

WinACE 2.0
is way better than winrar
it is capable of extracting multiple zip's
and it uses 4096K dictionary
winrar uses 1024K

but i think uharc is the best

Generally, RAR and ACE use the best compression algorithms, with ACE (especially 2) usually having better results. For media type data, UHARC offers the strongest compression, the downside being extremely long de/compression times.
Of course, your mileage may vary.

For maximum file compression, ACE is king. Best part is, you can make a really small archive in ACE and export it to a single .EXE file that anyone can run. While WinRAR may offer this, ACE makes the smallest file.
