What's the best CD-RW right now?? Plextor ? HP ? (IDE)

I helping a friend shop for a new cd-rw and thought I would ask the forum.

I'm sure that they will go with IDE for starters, Also I thought that
the new "burn-proof" software that comes with the Plextor would be good.

Any input would help....

Thx everyone 😀

This forum is absolutey loaded with Plextor zealots. I promise you will hear 10 plextors to every 1 of anything else...
😉 Well I don't know if that's quite true...but the way some of these guys are, you'd think that anything but plextor isn't worth the plastic used for it's face plate.

And the Plextors are great drives...but personally (at least in Canada) I find the Yamaha to be a far more reasonable choice. I got my 8x8 Yamaha for $300cdn and a Plextor 12x10 was almost $500cdn (I find burnproof to be highly overrated). That's about a 3minute difference in burn time...and 8x is already under 10 minutes....Personally if I were in the market I'd get a Yamaha for price/performance.

The TDK looks like a good deal, apperntly it's a rebagded plextor, and the Plextors are certainly good drives, and the TDK is quite low priced.

If you don't mind spending the extra cash or can find it for a decent price (canada has bad prices usually) then the plextor 12/10 is probably the best IDE CDRom out there. I just think it's overpriced.

Took the letters from my fingers guys. 🙂 Both excellent drives, haven't heard or seen anything bad about either. TDK might be harder to find in Canada, don't think I've seen it at any online stores yet. At least the ones I've visited.

I just picked up a Plextor 12x10x32 IDE in hopes of becomming a zealot. 🙂

I've heard in past threads that the Plextor and TDK drive are one in the same, just repackaged... And of course the TDK is a little cheaper...

Thx guys...hey John, let me know if you got a good deal and where, if you want.

I am still shopping around....

Oh yea, I know that he has a P2-450 for a cpu,
and that IDE drives are a bit more cpu dependant, is this fast enuf?

Any comments are welcome..

Thx guys😀

The fastest is the Yamaha 16/10, but I think the plextor or TDK 12/10 is still better because of burn-proof. BTW, I don't think burn-proof is overrated because it's easier to empty the buffer when you're burning at high speeds... Even if the TDK can be had for a good price, if you want to save money, go for the yamaha 8/8, but don't go slower than that. (4X RW is kind of annoying)
