Dell NEVER made their own Panels, and WHEN they were good, which they aren't anymore - they were using Samsung panels - so why would you vote for Dell and not samsung? Clueless people everywhere.

Seriously OP, if your looking for a real answer - you have a lot of work to do.

So let me guess, the dell panels were good when the 2001FP was around and started to suck with the 2405WFP?

In all honesty, it just depends on what your using the panel for

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_monitors

You can learn some there and with other links to other sites. A lot of people were and still are fans of S-IPS panels - I'm not really one of them because they were so slow and ghosted bad. They have gotten better, but then Dell switched away from using Samsung panels. I heard for a while there you could buy the 24" and get a Samsung or you might not. So for my personal use, I never found Dell panels the best but see - I'm a gamer. Someone who just checks there email will feel differently.

I'm not a be all end all with knowledge on LCD's, not even close. I've researched it a good bit though, and ended up getting a BenQ. I think its the best monitor, and I've worked on a lot of them that are no where even close to as good. This thing is a beast and I'm happy with it. I haven't researched monitors since I got it so there might even be something better out or coming really soon. There is a very good thread here in the Display forum stickied that you should look through. I think people should visit the ard forums too because there is a ton of good info there as well.

You may be right, but your holier than thou attiutude sucks and has added no value.

You have effectively said - "You don't know what you're talking about and I have no plan to do anything but insult you and point out that you're clueless."

Actually he's wrong on several counts. Not only did Dell use multiple panel suppliers along with Samsung in the "good old days" but they still use Samsung panels today in what he considers to be their poor panels.

Secondly, Samsung's branded line is a completely separate business than their panel manufacturer - known internally and to its customers as Samsung AMLCD division. They don't share the same P&L, have completely different management reporting structure, and AMLCD treats Samsung the same as every other integrator when it comes to pricing and preference. In fact, a customer like Dell may because of higher volumes or strategic reasons get better pricing from AMLCD than Samsung's own branded business. So no, voting for Samsung the brand is NOT voting for Samsung's panel business.

It's often the ones casting the stones that tend to be most guilty of cluelessness.

I know all of what you just said. But I'm not about to say I know it all, thats precisely my point. Do some frickin research yourself, thats it. Thats my point.

I haven't researched Dell recently because I have worked on many of them and I think their poor LCDs, other then the Samsung panels which were good but not as good as others. I never said you couldn't get Samsungs - in fact in my post right after yours I said they do still use Samsung panels - that you could get a samsung or something else. Why anyone would take a chance rather then buying a panel where they know what their getting is beyond me.

Back in the day, YES you could buy certain model number and know your getting the Samsung even when they were using other panels

Dell is likely winning due to price not being excluded in the original title but only in the body of the post. Dell makes very nice LCD's for the money.

Why does it matter if a brand makes their own panels? Most don't.

OMG, you didn't read my first post at all did you? It matters because "best" by brand is a dumb question. Period. It isn't a market where one brand is simply better then another. Especially when there is Dell, where nowadays you don't know what your going to get if you buy one. So if the poll was "What brand has the best S-IPS panel" or something that would have been relevant. AS it stands the answers will be ALL over the board without any consistancy at all, and what comes out the other end will be a BS answer.

But whatever, I really have ceased to care. Last post in this thread, so rejoice.

I bet you do.

I haven't researched Dell recently because I have worked on many of them and I think their poor LCDs, other then the Samsung panels which were good but not as good as others.

So your advice is, "do some frickin research" - after which you spout off about how Dell panels suck as they no longer use Samsung panels. Follwing which you contradict yourself by saying that Dell is in fact still using Samsung panels. Finally culminating in your admission that you "haven't researched Dell recently" despite the fact that you just recently went off on the OP for not doing his research on Dell before posting.

Gotcha.

Video Forum----------------------->

Just because your a lifer means you can break the rules, eh? :p

Edit: And the poll wouldn't make sense anyway because each manufacturer has their own specialty.

Dell "had" a good 20in 2007wfp until they started the panel lottery.
NEC currently has one of the best (and expensive) monitors out there (their 20.1in WS monitor).

I like the Dell 2407wfp 24in'ers although the quality isn't as good as the NEC.

Viewsonic had a few goods ones like their VX2025wm until all their sh!t went TN based.

And as a general rule, if you want a good monitor, don't get a TN panel.
