Samsung makes Sony's LCD's (at least for their HDTV's, not too sure if that also applies to monitors)

I have a 23" Sony WEGA and I love it. Plus, it's got all the component, composite, hdmi, rca, and coax connectors you could ever want :D

Its not about brand. Its reletive to each individual model. Each "brand" you just put up there may have some of their panels that are identical to all the others u posted. For example, Sony and Samsung are almost always the same panels - and that goes 100% for anything recent since they started their own panel manufacturing process.

Dell used to use good panels, all of there more recent ones are crap compared to others.

Your going to have A LOT to learn about panels, because I can give you an example with the 22" panel, since there is only one manufacturer of the panel - wherever you see a 22" LCD its going to be that manufacturer (cant remember now). And almost everyone has one.

Dell's 2405 and 2005 and 2007 and 2407 blow. If you think they're good, you're wrong. They're good in their category, but they outright suck as LCDs.

Samsung makes awesome LCD panels especially for HDTVs. Look at Samsung's 1080p set and Sony's XBR2/3. They use the same panel. Best LCDs out there right now.

As for desktop monitors, Viewsonic has awesome panels. Their VP930/2030 monitors may be 6-bit panels, but they aren't horrid TN panels that we keep seeing, so they offer better color reproduction and significantly better contrast and brightness.

I still don't see Samsung with a decent fast monitor. They have too many TN panels, but nothing in between. I don't want super fast. Super fast = crappy colors, crappy contrast, crappy general use.

I agree with everything you said, but Samsung/Sony panels are the only Manufacturer in the OP's poll that actually makes their own panels. The other actual manufacturers of panels aren't even in the poll. Meaning he has absolutely no idea what he's talking about in regards to LCDs, which isn't a demeaning comment - most people are completely clueless about panels.

BenQ/Philips/LG also make their own so I suppose philips would be my answer then, in a round about sort of way - simply because the absolute best LCD monitors on the market right now are BenQ monitors. Namely the 24" and the two new panels they have coming out soon. NEC also has primarily good stuff, but WAYYYYYYY overpriced

And see, more proof that most people even on a tech forum are completely clueless is the fact that now dell is winning. Dell NEVER made their own Panels, and WHEN they were good, which they aren't anymore - they were using Samsung panels - so why would you vote for Dell and not samsung? Clueless people everywhere.

Seriously OP, if your looking for a real answer - you have a lot of work to do.

for desktop LCD's does it matter? I have deployed so many LCD's in the past varying in many different vendors and I have not seen one that's OMFGBBQ stand-out good or bad. I think all desktop LCD's look good no matter what and normal people can't tell the slight differences. And therefore, Dell works for me because they are generally the cheapest in every class as far as respectable brands go. heck, even the sceptres look great.

now laptop lcd's are a different story and I have seen ones that look OMFGBBQ good and some of them just GOD aweful fugly in color and contrast.

You may be right, but your holier than thou attiutude sucks and has added no value.

You have effectively said - "You don't know what you're talking about and I have no plan to do anything but insult you and point out that you're clueless."

Eizo.

Although those NEC SpectraViews look very, very nice. Shame about the $6k pricetag.

There is a ton of stuff I don't know. I actually research and ask specific questions for long periods of time before buying anything. And with LCDs I have been researching quite a bit about them but only in regards to gaming and other needs that I would want a panel to fulfill. So I have researched only a specific part of the market.

Thats why I kept telling the guy if he really wants to get the best LCD for his money, for his needs - hes going to have to do a lot of leg work. I've learned a lot from the stickied thread on this forum, and reading Hard forum which I find many more knowledgable people on BTW. Not that they're not knowledgeable here, there are a few - but even the most knowledgeable doesn't stay up to date - and the industry changes so fast even if you knew all the best panels 3 weeks ago, you might buy something only to find out a much better one was coming out if you waited 2 more weeks and would of got it for 200$ less.

There is no way I could even BEGIN to write all of what I know - which is why I said "Do some frickin legwork, have specific questions to ask next time and ask it in a way that shows you actually did a tiny bit of work yourself."

You're comparing desktop LCD panels to TV panels. Brilliant.

So let me guess, the dell panels were good when the 2001FP was around and started to suck with the 2405WFP?

What I effectively said IMO was "You don't know what your talking about, and I could write a frickin novel but since I have no idea what your even considering as best - you should go and do a bunch of research because even a lot of people around here are as clueless as you are." Thats just telling it like it is, whether you see it that way or not. Some people appreciate directness, and I'm one of those people. Of course I'm not that type to post a blind question on a message board expecting anything less either. Anyone who has done even a small amount of research on LCD's will know that there is A LOT to learn.

Actually he's wrong on several counts. Not only did Dell use multiple panel suppliers along with Samsung in the "good old days" but they still use Samsung panels today in what he considers to be their poor panels.

Secondly, Samsung's branded line is a completely separate business than their panel manufacturer - known internally and to its customers as Samsung AMLCD division. They don't share the same P&L, have completely different management reporting structure, and AMLCD treats Samsung the same as every other integrator when it comes to pricing and preference. In fact, a customer like Dell may because of higher volumes or strategic reasons get better pricing from AMLCD than Samsung's own branded business. So no, voting for Samsung the brand is NOT voting for Samsung's panel business.

It's often the ones casting the stones that tend to be most guilty of cluelessness.
