ASUS is overpriced. ATI can be overpriced and it's supposedly missing some components. Sapphire is what most people go with. Go with powercolor only if price is good.

Go with the card with the best warranty.

I didn't know ATI has a lousy 1 year warranty until I got my XTX. This is pathetic considering several NVIDIA cards have lifetime warranties.

I've got a Connect3D X800XL and it came with a 1 year warranty. I've also been looking to upgrade to X1900XT and all the Connect3D X1900s I've come across so far have 1 year warranty also. It seems to be same as other ATI brands (BBA, Sapphire..) as far as I've seen.

it looks like the only real difference between the brands is the software and warranty. there are a couple minor cosmetic difference with some (asus has asus logo instead of ati), etc. looks like the asus is about 50 bucks more than some of the others but it also has a 3yr warranty where the others are 1 or 2 years.

Doesnt the Powercolor card have a lifetime warranty? Someone here in the forums has stated that.

Interesting thread...& interesting responses...I was a long time ATI fan & I only bought BBA products...Interesting to see how many people buy the other branded products...Btw, I still love ATI products, but needed to try something else after 8 years...

To answer your question, I'd only go w/ Built by ATI...

I never have had a bad original ATI card yet so the 1 yr warranty doesnt scare me. I prefer the original ATI cards when I can get them but thats just me. Saphire would be my second choice. ASUS is pricey but there is a reason for that. More software, they are usually factory overclocked and have improved cooling. You can save the money and overclock it yourself though.

If Powercolor has fixed their 2D issues, then they are.

If you use DVI, then go with Powercolor.

Otherwise probably Sapphire.

Just ordered a powercolor 1900XTX.... went with them because of the warranty AND theres a $20 mail in rebate on it at the egg, making it $589 + shipping. I swore I'd never pay more than $300 for a vid card, but the tax money is here and now was the time to jump over to PCIE, and I figured what the hell, may as well get something that is gonna last me a couple of years at least... :)

Supposedly, all high-end ATI cards are made at the same place anyway... so I guess you should go with the better warranty.

I bought a BBA x1900xt and either the core or a RAM chip failed in 2 days - either way, it started spewing artifacts and I had to RMA it. That's not to say BBA sucks. Sometimes you get a bad board from everybody. I've used BBA and Sapphire before with no problems.

My choice to go BBA on this was somewhat impulsive - part of it was that Newegg had the BBA in stock at their NJ warehouse when I ordered, and UPS Ground from there gets here in 1 day. :D

And I'll point out that the ASUS for sale @ Newegg is pricy because it's the x-fire version.

Yeah all the core chips are made in the same place, but the various manufacturers choose the components that they use. Powercolor is known to "cheap out" on the 2D components.

Sapphire is known to be very good in that regard.

It's a "warranty vs. 2D quality" issue. VGA only I hope. DVI should not be affected hopefully.

AFAIK, Sapphire has been making most, if not all, high-end ATI boards since the R4xx. The other ATI partners are allowed to produce the slower cards.
