yeah, I got that price with bing CB and a coupon from the Entertainment book. They have $30 off of $300 (at Tigerdirect), $20 off $200 (at CompUSA) and $10 off of $100 (at Circuit City). They stack with Bing (which end in less than 3 hours).

If you are buying at Tigerdirect, you can also get the ebillme $20 rebate (off a $100+ purchase). Entertainment coupons are good till October I believe.

At 415$ a gtx 480 is better bang for the buck then a 5850.

I think $249 would be a good price for the 5850. With that it would have scored about a 0.189, wDX11 0.169

I have seen it in the $245~250 range within the past few days and the lowest I have seen is $210.

GTX 460 and SLI 460 is the best bang bang card XD

A gtx 460 is about 25% slower then a gtx 470 but cost only 30$ less. How is it better for the buck then the gtx 470?

The 5850 deal for 245$ is good bang for your buck also, about the same as a gtx 460. The 5850 is 10 % faster then a gtx460 for 15$ more.

If you don't care about DX11 (and you shouldn't right now), the best bang for your buck is a 1GB 4870.

The cheapest 470 GTX I see on Newegg is $299.99.

The 460 GTXs start at $199.99 for the 768 GB and $229.99 for the 1GB.

gtx470 299$ with 10 percent off promo code = 270$ shipped - 30$ rebate= 240$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-501-_-Product

So 40$ more then a gtx 460 without rebate and 10$ more AR. Not bad ha?
Of coarse there is still a xfx 5850 for 245$ after promo code also.
But the 240$ gtx 470 beats that out also.

Edit : I hate to say it but a MSI gtx 465 at 204$ AR with free Metro game is looking good too.
Look at Anands latest gtx460 "The New 200$ king review', the gtx465 is only 10 or 15 percent slower (sometimes = to) the 5850 and cost 40$ less.

If you are considering sale prices, the $90 4870 that starts tomorrow blows everything away for bang 4 the buck. No DX11 is a deal breaker for some but it wouldn't bother me. Maybe years from now when most new games come with DX11 features and they are really noticeable.

What does bother me about it is the high power consumption (for its level of performance) and really, the high idle power consumption.

90$ for the 1gb? if so very very nice! The power consumption, and heat for the performance is terrible though.

The idle power consumtion is the worst!!! for the 4870. Touche!

OK, will try to get everyone in this post!

$150 MSI 5830 0.237, wDX11 0.217 (Sold out)
My $150 460 0.273, wDX11 0.240 (With Bing CB and Entertainment coupon)
------------------------------------
$90 Asus 4870 0.350, no DX11 (Starts Monday Aug 2nd)
------------------------------------
$415 GTX 480 0.171, wDX11 0.157
$215 GTX 470 0.251, wDX11 0.228 (Lowest I have ever seen a GTX 270 for)
$240 GTX 470 0.223, wDX11 0.204
----------------------------------
$204 GTX 465 0.208, wDX11 0.191
$189 GTX 465 0.225, wDX11 0.206 (assuming you get $15 for the included game)
----------------------------------
$200 GTX 460 768MB 0.206, wDX11 0.181
$230 GTX 460 1GB 0.196, wDX11 0.174
----------------------------------
$380 5870 0.144, wDX11 0.130
$249 5850 0.189, wDX11 0.169
$150 5770 0.206, wDX11 0.186
$130 5770 0.238, wDX11 0.215 (assuming 5770 drops when new Nvidia mid-range come out)

The GTX 480/5870 doesn't look good at all. The 5850 doesn't look good even at $249. The bang 4 the buck ratio goes down a lot on high-end videocards. Looks like the GTX 470 is the only one that bucks that trend.

The 5830 is sold out. :( So no 150$ 5830.
The gtx460 is 230$ for 1gb or 199$ for 768.
The 4870 is looking killer.
WHy do you have 2 gtx 470's? 215$? missed that one, where?

The gtx480 is the fastest single gpu ,it is normal to pay more for the fastest chip. Well at least as far as I remember.

How about the gtx 465 at 204$? and free metro game = 15$ credit?
Do that one Ed, please.

well, its the bang for the buck for me because it really performs well considering the overclocking capability that it has... it is an overclockers dream...

OC it to 800 850mhz, you can get pretty close to a 5850...

OK, added the sale gtx 465 prices and 5770/5870 prices.

Looks like the best option for Nvidia is to wait for a 460 or 470 on sale. The best ATi option seems to be to buy an older gen card (4870), a mid-range 5770 or wait for a 5830 sale. I think the 5850 would have to drop the $230 and lower range for it to be a very good buy. If someone knows the previous low for a 5870 or reasonable speculation on what it could drop it, I will add that.

Very good, above 0.2
Great, above 0.3

5850 is still good on its current price though... it is still a good and bang for the buck VC for its price range considering the performance it provides

So according to your updated chart the gtx 470 and 465 are best bangs for the buck right NOW,, correct?

I never thought I'd see the day when the gtx465 is best bang for the buck.:D

Well after Tuesday when the promo codes end ,it all will change again. :(

Edit; Ed, using that chart with weekly current prices would make a great sticky man! Ask Keys or one of the mods. I think its a great idea.

Assuming both deals are still valid, yes. However, I have not looked for any GTX 460 deals at the moment and tomorrow, the 4870 deal will be live that blows away the rest at 0.350 (without DX11).

The common bang for the buck deals are usually going to be the mid-range cards, as expected, like the 5770 and the GTX 460 786MB version. Those are 0.2 or close to it at retail, before any deals. My $150 GTX 460 comes with a Just Cause 2 which if I can get $15 for it, would raise my ratio to over 0.3

The best bang for the buck deals are really previous gen midrange or low end cards (like a 9800GT). I bought an EVGA GT240 512MB GDDR5 last week for $13.60 after rebate/bing. Wouldn't be surprised if that scored over 1.0!

One more update,

Newegg has a combo deal right now. Both items are XFX. One is a 650W power supply (XFX P1-650X-CAH9) and a 512MB GTS 250 (XFX GS250XYDFU). The videocard is reference specs and also comes with COD4.

The deal involves two rebates (one for $30 and one for $40). Add coupon: XFXPOWER for $15 off. Free shipping. $85 for everything after rebates. Thanks to Chango99 and proro1974 from slickdeals.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.481578

and I'm loving my GTX 460. Came with TWO Just Cause 2 coupons which have already sold for $35 after paypal fees. Total after filler, shipping and discounts... $121 for a 768MB GTX 460
