What's the best bang for the buck now?

I remember 5830s used to be a horrible value, but I just saw this deal on newegg for a 5830 for $150.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127491

Now I'm wondering what's the best bang for the buck card out now with the current prices?
5770 is probably out of the running now since this is so close in price, but I'm not so sure about 4870 at $100 or GTX 460 variants at whatever their current low price (looks to be $200 and $230 on newegg).

Yes that is a good deal on a 5830.

It looks like the ATi partners are trying to counter the 460 sales.

If you dont want to mess with a rebate, the GTX460 is hands down the best value right now.

If you discount DX11 games, then 4870 1GB for $100 is by FAR the best value. http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/19342/8

I would place 5830 for $150 2nd best and GTX460 3rd best. However, GTX460's value depends on the pricing of GTX470 and 5850 parts - often you can find those for $270-280 such as MSI GTX470 / 5850 on the EGG. Then, GTX460 for $240-250 doesn't make any sense since you'd need to overclock it to 800-850mhz on the GPU just to match the speed of the other 2 cards.

yes, but that deal ends when the bing does, as in tomorrow.

so then it gots to $230 for a 1gb 460, $200 for a 768 mb 460, and $150AR for a 5830. The 5830 sucks so much it's hard to recommend, but that is still a better "value" than the other cards.

That's a nice link. It would be nice if you could customize the results based on price changes though. Does make me feel better about my 5770 though since it still seems to offer the same fps/dollar ratio as the 460 768.

Can't say the same for this 5830 though which should be a faster card and is at the price I paid for my 5770. If this is a precursor of things to come and all 5830s drop down to $150, I'm wondering if the 5770s and 5750s will get to under $100.

There are a lot of good deals and values. Really just decide how much you want to spend and get the best card under that price.

From prices on newegg.

Gigabyte gtx 480 for 415$ after code. That's an awsome deal.
Msi GTx 470 for $280 AR. 95% of a 5870 for 100$ less. Great deal.
Gtx 460, good bang for the buck, we all know this.
If you trust the 5830 rebate, for 150$ its a great deal.
5770's have been and still are a good deal for the lower end.140$

So which one of these is best bang? You do the math. :)

Going by Russians chart, I'd say the gtx470.

From the AT's MSI GTX470 review, it's quite evident that if GTX470 had more TMUs, it would have likely outperformed the GTX480. Not even a 17 per cent GPU overclock is sufficient enough to match a GTX480 at stock speeds in Crysis. The power consumption in Furmark is just pathetic though. GTX475 needs to come out and phase the GTX470 into the grave.

280 isn't bad for a gtx 470, but it's hardly GREAT. russian sensation paid $205 for his (each), at that price it's irresistable. with gtx 460 1gb running ~ $230, 5850 should be $250 AR and gtx 470 should be $280 or so.

the real losers in this game are the 5870/gtx 480 buyers. both of those cards are now grossly overpriced. SI and fermi II can't get here quickly enough!

415$ for a gtx480 is not bad at all. You always pay a little more for the fastest gpu.

I think the 5870 at 385$ is terrible.

The MSI card actually has 10 percent off w/ promo code EMCYVNV39, ends 8/2. Therefore with the rebate it comes out to $250. So many GTX470 deals almost surely means this card is going to be discontinued.

uh?

just do the math yourself?

For example, the $150 MSI 5830 comes out to 0.236. The 768MB GTX 460 that I just bought for $150 comes out to 0.276 (0.307 if I can get at least $15 for the Just Cause 2 key)

The $100 4870 comes out to 0.315

The $90 4870 (starts Monday) comes out to 0.35 A winner!

What does a 415$ gtx 480 come out to?, since the chart had it at 510$

looks like it averaged 71fps (71/510 is 0.139)

so lowering it to $415 brings it to 0.171

My calculations were a little off on my $150 460 (I used 41.5fps when it should be 41fps) so mine is it 0.273 and 0.303 if I can get $15 for the key

Sorry! I didn't even notice there were 2 till you said it.

I believe I posted the without DX11 numbers for all of them but I'll try again:

$150 MSI 5830 0.237, wDX11 0.217
My $150 460 0.273, wDX11 0.240
$90 Asus 4870 0.350, no DX11
$415 GTX 480 0.171, wDX11 0.157

I think those are right. Kind of hard to guess fps and I was using whole numbers or 0.5 increments.

One more. Cheapest that I ever saw a (new) GTX 470 for was $215 after all the discounts. 0.251, wDX11 0.228

Nice, thanks.
You got a gtx460 768mb for 150$. wow.

At 415$ a gtx 480 is better bang for the buck then a 5850.
