I want to rip my entire DVD collection to my portable hard drive. What are some good apps to do that with?

DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are the most common answers. Only the latter can burn for you in 1 shot though.

i prefer getting the DVD43 to take out the CSS, and use nero for the copying of YOUR owned DVD's, even if the DVD is more then 4.7 GB it'll still copy

You should really try DVDShrink if you haven't done so. Best app for DVD's ever! I have all of my DVD's backed up on to my file server and I pull them from that and watch on my TV when I want to watch any of them.

actually if you just want a 1:1 backup into DVD9 or an image on your HD then DVD Decrypter is the way to go.

"Backing Up" your DVD9 to a DVD5 (using DVDShrink) is hardly a backup. Your removing features and likely reducing the bitrate of the main VOB(s) substantially (especially if you plan on keeping all features/soundtracks/etc). I NEVER understood the concept of backing up DVD9 to DVD5. But to each their own I guess.

I use DVDShrink to backup DVD9 to DVD5 because I usually just backup the main movie. Sometimes, there is no compression needed... and all I really watch is the main movie anyway. If I needed to watch the special features, I could put in the original DVD. But, usually, when I wanna watch a movie... I just watch the movie.

Also, Dual-Layer blank DVDs are like $8 each.... some DVD movies cost only cost $5 in the store.

Anyone heard anything good or bad about this software?

http://www.dvdwizardpro.com/

or software called "1click"

Looking to make-up backup copies of my collection (both CD games and DVD movies) so my kids don't scatch them and would prefer one-touch copying (I don't need to rip or convert formats, etc.)

Heck, DVDShrink's compression doesn't bother me. It's not like these are HD DVDs anyway. They are going to look like VCR tapes tapes do now in a few years away. It looks good and usually I can't tell that much of a difference. Pinnacle makes a good copying program as well. Not sure the name. It compressed some DVDShrink couldn't get under 4.x gigs.

I've always wondered if people with HUGE DVD collections would do the same thing when BluRay or HD-DVD came along.
