What's the best airlines in the United States?

i have only been in alaska once but seemed nicer than the other ones i frequently travel with, delta, southwest, united

Caveat: I only fly a few times each year.

I've had good experiences so far with Northwest, but Continental pissed me off yesterday. I usually just fly whoever is cheapest.

I'm split between United Airlines and Continental. I dont have much experience with any of the others.

Oh yea..Independent Air was pretty cool..even tho the planes were tiny..but sadly they went out of business. 🙁

Southwest. Those $80 round trip flights from Phoenix to Vegas or LA were great! My opinion of an airline is just get me there. I'll bring my own food and entertainment.

Southwest is fine for me. May not have the most ammenities, but it's almost always the cheapest.

And I happen to believe Carlos Mencia when he says that hijackers wouldn't stand a chance on a SW flight.

They all have their good and bad days. I've had bad experiences on all the major airlines, but generally speaking, they're OK. I fly USAir a lot now and they have improved a lot.

Midwest. Used to be even better, but it still offers better seats, better service, and better food for the same price.

I've flown on SouthWest, United, Delta and Alaskan. I loved United for the extra leg room in business class. (I'm Six four.) I was around 10 when I flew on Delta, so I cant comment much. SouthWest is good for short flights. Anything that's longer than 2.5-3 hours long I'd rather be in something other than a 737. Same goes for Alaska.

I don't have any brand loyalty except that to my own airline, but we're not passenger-carrying anyway so it doesn't matter. When I need to travel, I simply list with whomever is flying where I need to go and fly as a jumpseater. No charge.

I've flown a lot in my life. Some of the better (IMO) airlines don't exist anymore. (TWA among others)
As for the "BEST", it depends on where you're flying to/from. Going from Kahleeforneeya to Hawaii, I prefer Hawaiian or Aloha. 2nd choice wo uld be UAL.
ATA (IMO) sux..like being stuffed in a fvcking cattle car. They seem to cram more people into an airliner than the rest. I guess to make up for the heavily discounted fares companies like Pleasant Hawaiian have negotiated.
Southwest does have some cheap fares, but, often, Jet Blue beats their fares, IF their routes fit your travel itinerary. Having the TV in the seatbacks is kind of nice. Gives you SOMETHING to watch besides the usual crappy movies, and for short flights, you don't get movies anyway...(wonder if they let passengers watch the unfolding drama a couple of years ago, when they had the front landing gear problem?)
I've flown Alaska a few times, and IMO, as long as you don't have to make a leg on thier "partner" Horizon Air, they're pretty good. The Horizon fleet always seems to be 2nd rate IMO.
NWA used to be pretty good. I understand their service has gone into the crapper in recent years. Probably causing some of their financial problems, which have led up to their bankrupcy filing.
