<< (n8's roommate is in for a surprise) >>

Yes, yes he is. Don't get me wrong he is very intelligent and will do well at whatever he decides to do, but his attitude towards those who don't hold degrees is awful.

<<Geez, I can't believe people are complaining about making "only" 90-100K/yr>>

Keep in mind theres always someone worse off than you. Im pretty sure that goes for everyone who goes to AT. For some people's position 90-100K is pretty low pay.

<< after I graduated with a BS in Comp Sci. in June i had offers that ranged from 50K to 84K with only my under grad degree, if i get masters i think its not unreasonable for me to find that my salary is 150k+ within 5-7 years. >>

I'll assume that these offers were all in the Redmond area. The cost of living is sky high... no? You wouldn't be getting 84K offers in areas with a normal cost of living.
>>

Actually the 84K offer was in the boonies, Lawerence Livermore National Laboritories. (its in Livermore, CA)

<< computer science isn't all about programming... it really depends on what you choose to focus on. >>

very true and remeber become a doctor takes a damn long time on the order of 8-10 years.

People here are complaining about 80-90k?
That's a hell of a lot of money. Or maybe the cost of living is just MUCH higher in the US than Canada, I dunno. My dad makes 45K CDN and my mom made 30K.. and that was decent. Have 2 friends that make a bit more, maybe 100K CDN combined. Well off, live in the burbs with 2 cars, big house (at least one of 'em has a big house), etc...

I really think based on what you've said on AT in the past that you are a very unusual case. Most people won't find themselves in the same sort of position as you or have that much opportunity. Whether you work hard, are smart, come off well, or a combo of all I think you don't really represent the norm. You're a porn star baby!

thanks for the compliment but i dont think im all that hot, i think timing and a little finesse goes a long way, i have friends who are just as qualified as me but just had run of bad luck which he had no control over. I'm sure things can pick up with everyone.

<< Medicine is not a field to get into for the money. It is my impression that too many people are already in the field for the money. >>

Agree 100%

<< Your brother is a fully licensed medical doctor working full time making $93k? >>

That's not an uncommon salary for a general practice physician.
>>

Skoorb. IT's pretty bad right now in the states as far as Dr/s are concered. Many are closing thier practice because of the low pay and very high medical malpractice.. Anyhow he's been out of school for about 3 yrs and that's the going rate for a HMO GP. He will make more with raises and Overtime.

I also agree with the others about not doing it for money. BUt that has to be a consideration in any career choice unless your independently weathy then you could go to school to be an artist or historian.

Ameesh- are you a programmer or a sysadmin? seems the state jobs for admins pay very little. Like I was saying my bro has both a BS and MS in CS and he's very smart (1600 sat etc) and he's paid about what your low ball offer was and he has like 7 yrs. professional experiance. I got to tell him to start looking somewere else. He administer about 40 sun servers, 300 PC's and all that networking stuff associated.

How is Livermore in the boonies? It's like half an hour From San Jose and less than an hour from San Francisco.

I remember seeing figures somewhere for a BS Computer Engineering degree. Starting salary average I believe was about $60k.
