there are way... way... WAY too many good beers to even generate a list, I think

but that's cuz of where I live :awe:

I'm in MD, haven't heard of that place. Total Wine's selection is enough to make me stare in disbelief, so I can only imagine what Shangy's would do to me.

I've seriously spent 30 minutes staring at beer bottles trying to put together the ultimate 6-pack, haha.

Shangy's is the largest distributor in the midatlantic/northeast region. Place is a dream. It's basically just a smaller warehouse filled with cases of beer. 😛 This thread convinced me to do a quick Total Wine run, though, and here are what made it back with me:

Oskar's Ten Fidy
Oskar's Gordon
Oskar's Old Chub
Oskar's Dale's Pale Ale
Oskar's Mama's Little Yella Pills
(Love the brewery, was pumped that the had a whole stock this time around)

Nogne O's Pale Ale (never had it)
Nogne O's Porter (had it, pretty sure I liked it.. loved their Dark Horizon)

Lindemann's Kriek Lambic (I like to keep a flavored lambic around for desert drinking)

St Peter's Cream Stout (yum)

Zoetzuur Flemish Ale (never even heard of it, but a quick BA search yields an A- overall .. lucky find for me, a lover of flemish reds)

Duchesse de Bourgogne (one of my all time favs)

Tripel Karmeliet

All for 74 bucks. Not too shabby.

Only 2 or 3 brews that are new to me, but a pretty exciting selection. Still didn't see any gueuzes, though. 🙁

Fat Tire has the added advantage of being available in cans, and this is how you should buy it. When you've yardsaled after hucking the gnar you really don't want shards of glass poking through your Camelbak and piercing your spine. Always ride with cans instead of bottles!

Lotsa good beer put there, OP. Just start trying 'em.

Fat Tire is Belgian beer for beginners. It's decent no doubt, but there's better. Chimay if you want to get into that stuff.

Their tripple is the closest thing to a typical Belgian, to Chimay especially. Fat Tire is so far from that I don't know how to compare it.

Of course Stella (made in Belgium), is even more of an anti-Belgian brew imo. 😀

Wow, I guess the PNW is awesome when it comes to beer.

These are just a few of the common beer in the area:
Redhook (esb)
Pyramid (hefeweizen) (THIS IS ALSO IN CA)
Alaskan (amber)
Deschutes Brewery (porter)
Full Sail (amber)

Of course around here there are microbrews everywhere, and every restaurant has at least 3-4 local microbrews on tap.

Those are pretty common on the East Coast as well. Redhook and Pyramid have had pretty wide distribution for at least a decade--remember that Redhook has a brewery in NH.

Full Sail is maybe harder to find out there.

Sam Adams Utopias
Sam Adams Triple Bock

I've had some Sam Adams Doppelbock and it was like drinking flat beer mixed with tree sap. It's interesting and all for the high alcohol content, and it's probably something everyone should try once, but I can't imagine anyone recomending it as a "good" beer. As such, the same goes for Triple Bock and Utopias, which I assume taste like flat beer + tree sap + motor oil.

It's called "Cold"

You can almost always find "Cold" beer in the cooler at your local grocery or convenience store.

Edit: And sometimes in your buddy's fridge. That would be known as "Free'n'Cold" beer... Which is really the best kind.

Each to their own. Topic is beers that we like, so I did that. This is stuff that I drink and would recommend any of them any time, save the prohibitive cost of Utopias which is strictly for special occasions.

St Bernardus ABT 12 - Belgium beer that is not too hard to find in the US. Stuff has good flavor, just be careful because it has a larger kick to it (10.5% ABV) than the standard US beers. Rated in the top 50 beers on ratebeer.com.

I like Kilkenny and after reading the wiki on it, I guess it's only been in the US for 1 year? Weird.

It'd be cool if someone pointed me in a direction based on that.
