What's so great about the college experience?

Yesterday I was doing some maintenance work on my sister's computer while she was watching tv. It was an episode of gilmore girls where they go to harvard and look around or something. It got me thinking that college looks like fun. I dont know.... Im going to college for sure but I would like those of you here who have already gone to college what is it that makes it a good experiance for you?

I guess what i'm asking id if you like college, why, what you think is so great or not about it and what kind of major you chose.

You may learn how to spell experience there.

Hey, I'm a french Canadian and I beleve that my english is pretty damn good since i'm barely 18 and it's not my first language......

You learn a lot about people....and of course there are the girls, parties, friends, freedom...pretty much "life". But then afterwards you'll have to deal with money in a different way and bills and career and unemployment and taxes....etc 🙂 Have fun!

Freedom. You can party, but you dont have to. no one really cares what you do. Its all about going balls out for 4 years in everything you do because there is no one there to stop you. (Do note, the police will stop you [or at least try to stop you] from doing certain actions)

In my experience it is overrated, but YMMV.

did you go when you were 16 though? 2 years may have made the difference...but you are right, YMMV.

I learned self-control and discipline after a horrible freshman year...played 30straight hours of FF7 during finals week :Q

I think it is this:

Freedom from parents/guardians while you don't have to worry about bills (other than tuition)

Its all the bonuses of independance (freedom, beer, sleep all day, wake all night, go to class or not? you decide! that kind of thing) with none of the drawbacks (utility payments, insurance payments, mortgage payments, taxes, full time jobs, worrying about layoffs, etc.) and you get to enjoy it all with a few hundred people of an age with you (a few of whom you will like).

college
well besides the experience if u need a half decent job u need a good degree
and now even people with good degrees arent jobs

not to say u HAVE To go to college to get a job but it surely is a big PLUS

what's great is that it's an ideal atmosphere to "come of age" in.

if you choose the right college, you'll be surrounded by intelligent people with diverse opinions, as well as lots of other young people experimenting with their identities (including sexual idenitites). There's a huge gamut of knowledge, emotions, thoughts, and perspectives to expose yourself to. In a way it's about creating yourself instead of passively being molded by perhaps homogenized surroundings (your local suburbs)-

The experience being talked about is getting the finest education from a great institute and being surrounded by other brilliant minds.

I'm graduating in three years with a Bachelor of Science. It's not really that great. Go to class, meet some people, maybe get drunk a few times.

Of course, I'm an RA and I work two jobs + generally, so that may have affected my perception.

Freedom and independence (if you live away from where you normally live).

Lots and lots of fun.
