i get next monday off but how important is cesar chavez (sp?) that we make a holiday dedicated to him?

You get a day off for his birthday? Bwuahaha. Only in California. He was a big Farm Worker Labor Organizer.

Short version: Farm workers in Calif. were treated like slaves until he organized them and forced the farmers to treat them decently. I'm not going to say whether I believe there should be a holiday, but he was a hell of a man.

thought you meant the boxer...

we had a vote on weather or not to have a statue of him put on our campus (US). i voted no. don't know how it turned out, though.

not all farm workers were helped by him. he only helped the mexican farm workers, made a mexican farm workers union. i knew a farm worker that hated him because he lost his job and all that...

There's a street named after him near my pad...used to be called Brooklyn Ave. I'll tell ya, whatever they call it, you don't wanna get caught there after the sun goes down. 🙂

Yeah that's like Martin Luther King BLVD. It's funny the man was all about peace, but it doesn't matter what town your in, if your on ML King at night you better have bullet proof windows.

And, BTW, which cal state school do you go to?

it's in my sig, chico state 🙂

ok read his biography. Sure he had a hard life and all but in my books he still doesn't qualify as a great person that influenced the society enough for a holiday. MLK should, cesar chavez doesn't even come close to him. we have streets named after this guy? come on.

Nothing. He was just another self-interested racist.

Politicians wanted to please most of the hispanics here in California, so they created this "holiday". It was a PR move.

Makes about as much sense as Chicago public schools getting off Pulaski day...

For Doctor Kate Pulaski, the Enterprise MD from season 2 of TNG? She ruled, but a whole holliday?
