What's so bad about Projection TVs?

ndee

Lifer
One guy posted a pic about his new HDTV-Projection TV his dad brought home, and one said "bahahahahaha, rear-projection TV.... is the major suckage"(or somethin in that context). Why aren't they good?

It's not that they aren't good, but compared to a direct view CRT they are inferior. They aren't as bright, they are harder to keep in adjustment, & are more sensitive.

The problem with tubes of course is they're heavy, deep, and generally unwieldy above 36-40".

The viewing angle on the rear-projection is also not as good (have to sit in front of it to see it clearly)

I've got a 60" Hitachi Ultavision and its off angle viewing looked a lot better than some others when I bought it('97). YMMV

I wanna Front Projection HDTV for my next TV, but shhhhhhh, don't tell my old lady what it's gonna cost.

My rear-projection TV is Plenty bright ... even in a bright room. Its called having Multiple Tubes ... the drawback of that of coulse is that from time to time ... (every time its moved) the convergence needs to be calibrated. I like the picture on it better than on any standard CRT i have ever seen.
