Whats slowing down my system

I have listed all my computer specs in my signature. I thought it'd be good enough to run HL2 at a playable frame rate. Yet, besides the fact that it takes a really long time to load every time i want to play, it is noticeable laggin from time to time. ie, the screen stutters when i look in a different direction. Anyone have any ideas as to what is the bottleneck on my system? I think, although i hope it isn''t, my graphics card.

i have a
Abit IC7-G
P4 2.6 (no OC yet)
1Gig Corsair DDR400
and a GeForce4 Ti4200 64mb

you can't have that bad of screen shutters because of your card, try lowering your settings a little

Your graphics card is definitely the bottleneck, but it's not traumatically so. But some people in software suggest to reduce the sound quality. It has big effects for many, without a large sacrifice. Should be worth it for you considering you are using onboard sound.

also greatly depends on what settings you have in the game..
you CANNOT play at max res with that card and expect "decent" framerates...

It's common knowledge that the FX series of cards has a fit when you present it with DX9 code, so if there's anyway to make it only use a DX8 path, that'd be the one you want to use.

hey guys check the software forum or any forum on the net, the stutter problem is most likely from the autosave and nearly everyone has it. :(
