I would have to say...

Fear for the lives of our children, fear for the planet, and generally wondering if we will ever make it to old age, or see peace in our time.

We don't know yet. I'd assume most people are in their teens and early 20s. The information age, tech boom, overuse of prescription drugs, entitlement, etc -- that's all from the BB and hippy generations.

We may end up advancing in: life extension, teleportation, genetics, optical or molecular computing, etc. Ideally.

Hopefully not a continuation of fat, lazy, entitled, whiny socialists that have an average family size of 1 kid. That would kill America. We've got to have more, educated people to compete with other nations.

Beginning to utilize the internet. Instant communication with anyone anywhere becoming ubiquitous.
Nanotech, biotech, artificial intelligence, robotics, understanding the brain.

Call me an optimist, but I don't think fear will be the defining idea.

internet generation--sounds catchy

but the next generation will have it too, so I think we need something more specific

maybe, "the sleeping generation" since we kind of fell asleep at the whell while all our manufacturing base goes overseas and we become a service labor force. maybe, "the service generation".

not really unique to this generation. that makes me think more of the cold war 50's/60's.

Depending on what happens in the future, I'd guess it is a sort of golden age or pioneering age of the internet (finding the barriers and rules and ethics of this whole internet thing), or maybe a critical point in middle east / world politics.
