Can't stand bluegrass, and I live in the Bluegrass State! :barf:

I'm surprised it took 24 posts for someone to post this. I thought the hate would come much sooner. You probably hate it because you grew up with it? A little too much exposure maybe? Who knows. In any case - rock on.

Reminds me of O Brother Where Art Thou and Bioshock Infinite

Pretty much how she was introduced to the world, and when Bluegrass suddenly became "Bluegrass: easy listening for hipsters" ...as I like to call it. :\

yes, I am one of those type of Bluegrass fans. :D

But I've been to Wilkes county a few times and have friends from Bluegrass land that banged that into my brain back in the day.

Merlefest is still the best music festival anywhere, if you ask me.

..different kind of bluegrass, bro. :D

Bluegrass was born in NC (don't listen to those Tennessee jerks that will lie to you...)

You guys just have some invasive grass, sad to say. (OK OK, maybe B Monroe was born in Kentucky, but none of that took off until they all settled in the foothills of NC and started their little cult. :D)

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Some of the best guitar flat pickin' you'll hear.

I've really not listened to much bluegrass at all, however am going to the 'northwest string summit' this weekend (Down from Seattle to go w/ my dad who is more in to it).

Any band from the list on the site here stand out as a must see?

I saw Yonder mountain string band mentioned a couple times, I'll be sure to check them out...any other recs?

Yonder Mountain String Band is absolutely not to be missed, and I'd say the same about The Infamous Stringdusters. I've not heard them with Nicki Bluhm but she's pretty good with The Gramblers. They are more mellow than Yonder Mountain, but also an improvisational jam band. Greensky Bluegrass is very good, another jam band with varied influences - although I'm prejudiced 'cause they do a lot of Dead. The Shook Twins are folk, but pretty good, although Sideboob is pretty meh in my view. Not familiar enough with the others to say yes or no, but a quick romp through Youtube ought to give you a decent idea of who you'd most like to see.

I had a chance to see them for free over the Fourth weekend, McKee Foods sponsored them as the headliner for the Collegedale free concert. Unfortunately had to miss it, we had company and the grandson.

bluegrass is nice but not for me, i found out im allergic to it couple years ago. So i can't even walk near the grass at all the major stores because they all have bluegrass. Some bad luck is all it is. Worst part is, when they get the lawn mower and weedwacker guys out there. That's when i have to stay inside lol.

I grew up with it and still love it so not sure the too much exposure thing works. ;) My Canadian wife hates it though which limits my listening opportunities.

I'd checked out The Infamous Stringdusters recently, sounded like it could potentially be my thing. Wasn't.

Looks like they're playing right before yonder on the main stage tonight so I should be able to see them both

http://stringsummit.com/2016-music-schedules/

Wasn't able to make it yesterday but heading up today through the weekend- looking forward to it.
Need cliffs of who you saw and how you liked it.

After missing the last Steve'N'Seagulls concert and catching a great Yonder Mountain String Band/Trout Steak Revival concert, I'm trying to arrange seeing the Legendary Shack Shakers, the Hackensaw Boys, and The Devil Makes Three in the next few months.
