False, by almost all accounts I've seen.

This statement essentially confirms that you very much need to reconsider your list of preferred media sources, as your are GROSSLY misinformed. Trump has the highest negatives EVER for a leading presidential candidate. He will get trounced in the general election barring some drastic, almost inconceivable reversal in his polling performance.

Look at the YUUUUGE favorability!

http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/donald-trump-favorable-rating

Suffolk/USA Today 4/20 - 4/24 1,000 LV Unfavorable +33
GWU/Battleground 4/17 - 4/20 1,000 LV Unfavorable +33
Morning Consult 4/15 - 4/17 2,032 RV Unfavorable +25
NBC/WSJ 4/10 - 4/14 1,000 RV Unfavorable +41

Either you consider 61% of voters having an unfavorable opinion of him to be 'popular' or you REALLY need to get out of whatever media bubble you're trapped in. Donald Trump is the most widely disliked major party nominee in US history.

That's right, the most hated EVER.

So more fat cat tax cuts, militaristic Keynesianism, Union busting & scandals, not to mention tripling the national debt.

Yes sir, exactly that.

Afterall, it is precisely what the average Repub on the street have been faithfully voting for ever since Reagan took office.

Geez people, what the hell sources are you listening to?

I watch last night's election coverage on MSNBC, hardly the flagship of the Right Wing. Talking heads claim Republican primary voting is way up from 2012. Also much talk of Trump attracting Blue Collar Democrats and independents, hardly the "Republican base".

Also much talk of the "base" opposing Trump whether because of his "liberal politics of the past', his abortion stance that is contrary to the Repub platform or his non-neocon foreign policy and criticism of Bush. Jeebus, everyone knows those who consider themselves 'real' conservatives, i.e. the base, are opposing Trump in significant numbers.

Trump already has more votes than Romney did for the entire 2012 year. He's expected to break the all-time record. Either the repub base has exploded, contrary to continuous assertions here that the repub party is dying out or trump is pulling votes from outside that base.

Or heavily contested primaries lead to higher voter turnout. Most nominees had things wrapped up a long time ago. Trump's weakness in the primary has led to a contested nomination process much longer than normal, so a higher turnout should be expected.

I don't know where you got the idea that Trump's appeal goes out to the broader electorate but it's badly wrong. As you've already been shown he will be the least popular major party nominee in history.

Go look at the actual data and the actual polls instead of listening to brainless cable news analysis. Republicans like Trump pretty well overall. Independents and Democrats hate him. On what planet is a -27 unfavorable rating among independents and a -70 among democrats 'pulling them in'?

To be clear I'm not saying Trump will win the general. I am disagreeing with the idea that Trump's base is the Repub base. I have heard this from 'Dem strategists' and other campaign/election professionals and pollsters for quite a while now. You may disagree, fine. But your position is not particularly shared by many professionals. Their reading of the polls differs.

Trump's base is the same people who booed John McCain at his concession speech in 2008. It's the non-fundie people who've voted Repub since Reagan. Trump energizes them & lets them show how fed up they are with the Repub leadership & still vote Republican.

It's a nifty trick for dealing with well propagandized irrational people.

What's next? Simple.
The OMG NO WAY IN HELL will become WELL DARN, LETS GIVE IT A CHANCE.
Theres gonna be a lot of nose holding when people go to the polls come November.
And a lot of eating crow.

And this fallacy that Hillary beats Trump by 20+ points will turn out to be nonsense.
Once Hillary and Trump lock down their nomination, polls will flip.
Trump will outpoll Hillary by the same 20+, easily.

I'm wondering if Sanders supporters will turn out to be spoiled brats?
Refusing to support Hillary no matter how Bernie suggest they should do.
I always suspected that Sanders supporters were potentially mostly spoiled brats.
It they don't get their way, the hell with it. They'll stay home and pout.
And you know what that means, US Supreme Court justice Sarah Palin.
