whats needed for a External graphics card for a laptop

can some one tell what are all i need to connect a External graphics card from these laptops
to a LCD monitor of 2560 x 1440 resolution and one with 4k monitor

Dell latitude E6430
HP Elitebook 8470 (this is newer and better graphics card than Dell above)

considering a video card dock to help with , but dont know what all i need to get to make this work

Graphics card
express card
cables - dont know what all cables needed
what else
 
Gaming or work?

If gaming, Thunderbolt enclosures seem to be the best bet, but the cost (as well as hardware support) is so prohibitive that you might as well build a dedicated rig.

As for work, I'll re-look at this and post later.
 
this is for work and not gaming. old laptop given by my company so i cant change anything in laptop.

Will have to check around more but it's NOT going to be easy... Your Elitebook 8470p is a dandy of a unit (I had one!) but your only hope lies in its Expresscard 54 slot to an external PCIe16 slot (running around 1-4x speed, but that's not bad considering.)

I don't think anyone truly made a full kit containing external box, PSU and connector card - though it had been propositioned.

This is STILL easier than finding a compatible MXM module and getting it installed. 🙁
