What's Maxtor's warranty? A Strange Symptom.

I have a Maxtor D740X-6L (40gb) (sn# 662219910131) that acts very strangely:

1. It is recognized in BIOS perfectly
2. Therefore it posts and goes past the motherboard screen.
3. Then it absolutely halts when it's time to load Windows.
4. Same thing in Safe Mode.
5. Same symptom occurs when trying to boot with WinXP CD. It boots off with no prob until it gets to the part where HD activity is required, then it halts.

I have already tried using a new IDE cable, switching Slave/Master mode, singling out the drive in one IDE channel, etc...

Try reseting the BIOS?
Edit:Had a similar poblem on an ECS K7S5A.

Reset the Bios, it seems to be a common problem with this board.
