Whats Maxtors factory Acoustical management setting?

Anybody know what the factory setting is out of the box? I never checked mine(2 D740X 40gigs) I now they are in a raid config so the maxblast software wont recognize them.

I believe they are set to "FAST" by default which means that Acoustica Management IS turned on but it's running for better speed versus lower volume. If you were able to run the software and turn OFF the Acoustic Management you'd get a performance increase but also a volume increase.

Hope that helps.

You could un-RAID them long enough to run the Maxtor AMSET utility with a DOS boot disk, if you had no other way to find out. However maybe the stupid RAID BIOS would decide to re-RAID format the drives if you took them off and put them back on. Dunno. That's why I stay away from RAID now, aside from not needing it.

At any rate, the question's been answered anyway.

Raid or no raid it dont make any difference, that dos program acesses the drive's firmware directly,so you can use the utility anytime.

The 2 drives are on my NV7-133R with the highpoint controller. Maxblast does not find the drives when it does its searching.-I tried already

Then just move the drives to the regular ata connector to use the utility then put the drives back.

Just make sure you don't try to boot or use any other tools on the drives while they're on the other controller.

I knew the Maxtor utility wouldn't affect the drives. What I was concerned about is booting the system without any drives attached to the Highpoint controller. If you do that, and it detects no drives even though it was configured for RAID, then you put them back and it detects the drives on it again, will it just go back to the RAID array it was in before, or will it think they're new drives that need to be prepared for RAID?
