I need a spirit who can touch my life.
I need a voice to speak the truth.
I need a soul who will be on my side.
I need a heart I'll never lose.

Somebody like you
Someone like you, Someone like you

Sometimes I wonder if my dreams are right.
Sometimes I know they'll all come true.

Smashing Pumpkins- Soma

Nothing left to say
And all I've left to do
Is run away
From you
And she led me on, down
With secrets I can't keep

Close your eyes and sleep
Don't wait up for me
Hush now don't you speak
To me

Wrapped my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Is your broken heart, your heart

So now I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray my tears
To anyone caught in our ruse of fools

One last kiss for me...yeah
One last kiss good night

Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
And crawled back to you

I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone, lost, anyone but you

So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me, yeah
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world, yeah
When god sleeps in bliss

And I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
And I'll betray myself
To anyone

I like Mayonaise and Today too, but this is more recently ingrained into my mind

these

and this:

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell?
Blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a viel?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you trade
your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead-role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Working Class Hero

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so f**king crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still f**king peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

Charlotte Corday

If you hear a step upon your stair tonight
If you see a shadow in the candle light
It's only your imagination leading you astray
See her for a moment then she'll slip away
The ghost of Charlotte Corday

She wanders down the hallway in a long black dress
And lingers by the fireplace like a faint caress
Just what it is that brings her here no man alive can say
See her for a moment then she melts away
The ghost of Charlotte Corday

Stars in the window like a panoply
Covering everything
River of night
Stars in the window
See them shining for
Anyone else, anyone else

Stars in the window like a panoply
Covering everything
River of night
Stars in the window
See them shining for
Anyone else, anyone else

The clock ticks in the dark and now the night is still
The air is like a murmur on the window sill
All at once there's someone there that only you can see
Seeking the forgiveness that will set her free
The wind has taken away
The words she wanted to say
The sky is now turning gray
The dawn is turning away
The ghost of Charlotte Corday.

The Coldest Winter In Memory

The coldest winter in memory was 1709
The sea froze off the coast of France all along the Neptune line
By the lost town of Dunwich the shore was washed away
They say you hear the church bells still as they toll beneath the waves

Come all you earthly princes, wheresoever you may be
From the Sun King in the court of France to the Czar in Muscovy
Take heed of Charles of Sweden, the Lion of the North,
On the cracked earth of summer with his army he goes forth

Guardian angels wherever you may be, reach down and keep my soul for me

I was there amongst that number, I heard the trumpets strain
I saw the host of banners spread across the Polish plain
Those who stood against us, they soon were swept away
They may have the numbers but it's Charles shall have the day

We cut our way through forests, crossed on frozen streams
They fell away before us like a murmur in a dream
And they burned the land around us as snow was closing in
And the arms of winter took us as we fired against the wind

Guardian angels wherever you may be, reach down and keep my soul for me

Through all the courts of Europe there's a rumor from the East
The kings have come to battle and it's Charles who's known defeat
They'll shake their heads and wonder at how this came to be
But it's nights without a shelter that have made an end for me

Now Charles is fled to Turkey, left his men afar
And they'll be marched through Moscow now as prisoners of the Czar
And had I but known last summer what I know understand
I'd have never set my foot inside this bleak and bitter land

Guardian angels wherever you may be, reach down and keep my soul for me

The coldest winter in memory was 1709
The sea froze off the coast of France all along the Neptune line
By the lost town of Dunwich the shore was washed away
They say you hear the church bells still as they toll beneath the waves

Flying Sorcery

With your photographs of Kitty Hawk
And the biplanes on your wall
You were always Amy Johnson
From the time that you were small.
No schoolroom kept you grounded
While your thoughts could get away
You were taking off in Tiger Moths
Your wings against the brush-strokes of the day
Are you there?
On the tarmac with the winter in your hair
By the empty hangar doors you stop and stare
Leave the oil-drums behind you, they won't care
Oh, are you there?

Oh, you wrapped me up in a leather coat
And you took me for a ride
We were drifting with the tail-wind
When the runway came in sight
The clouds came up to gather us
And the cockpit turned to white
When I looked the sky was empty
I suppose you never saw the landing-lights
Are you there?
In your jacket with the grease-stain and the tear
Caught up in the slipstream of the dare
The compass roads will guide you anywhere,
Oh, are you there?

The sun comes up on Icarus as the night-birds sail away
And lights the maps and diagrams
That Leonardo makes
You can see Faith, Hope and Charity
As they bank above the fields
You can join the flying circus
You can touch the morning air against your wheels
Are you there?
Do you have a thought for me that you can share?
Oh I never thought you'd take me unawares
Just call me if you ever need repairs
Oh, are you there?

Notes by Charlie Hulme:
Amy Johnson was a British pilot who made an epic solo flight to Australia in 1930. My mother, born in 1912, has often talked of the admiration of the working-class girls of the day for Amy and her flying escape from the hard life of the depression, which makes me wonder whether this is a song for Al's own mother, who I think is a little younger than mine and would have been a schoolgirl in 1930. Certainly Al thinks a lot of the song, as it very often opened his concerts in the late 1990s.

The song is a masterly list of aviation clichés, poetic images and punning double meanings. The title hints at the magic of flight as well as the 'flying saucers' of UFOs which decorated the post-war skies, and 'compass roads; combines the old aviators' use of the roads below as direction finders with the 'compass rose' which is the flower-petal-like design traditionally made by the North, South, etc. markings on a sailor's compass.

Kitty Hawk, North Carolina was the location of the first powered flight by Wilbur and Orville Wright, the de Havilland Tiger Moth was a biplane often used by stunt flyers, Leonardo da Vinci's renaissance sketches of flying machines are well-known, and Icarus was the character of classical mythology who flew by flapping home-made wings until he flew too close to the sun and melted the wax which held them together.

The 'flying circus' was the name adopted by Baron von Richthofen and his team of German World War I fighter pilots. Faith, Hope and Charity refers to a typically British story of the defence of the island of Malta against the Italian Regia Aeronautica in 1940. The story told at the time was that Malta was left defenceless when the Navy abandoned the island, but a number of Gloster Sea Gladiator biplanes (see heading picture), intended for aircraft-carrier use, had been left behind still packed in crates. Four of these were hastily assembled and flown by volunteers from the Air Fore ground staff, managing to convince the Italians that they were a squadron of 25. One was soon destroyed, but the other three battled on until better aircraft arrived, and came to be called Faith, Hope and Charity by the grateful local people.

Later writers have suggested this story is somewhat mythical in that there were actually more than four Sea Gladiators, and the names were not used at the time, although 'Faith' can still be seen in a Malta museum today.

My favorite quote is from a little known Christian Metal band, the song is Tourniquet - Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm

Darwinistic Dante's Inferno partially obstructed preconceptions steering the helm
Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm
As the fire's embers faded and wrought their broken, dying ghosts black upon the ground
And the sunlight sets the clouds aflame
Do you not gaze in wonder of how they became?
What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?
And the grandest of valleys and canyons that are cut with the passing of eons of time
From a wave of the mightiest hand from the giver of life and beauty sublime
When the tufted footfalls of a jungle beast silently slip past your panicking feet
And the soul within you marvels and your praise to Him is cast
Do you really think Mr. Darwin's words and thoughts truly are the last?
Chaos, order
As scaled wings erupt in brilliant colors spectrum's view
When a seed becomes a plant and then a tree then starts anew
Of skeletal frame of fins and flight by chance they do appear by might?
Of atoms protoplasmic start will soon contain a beating heart
Chaos, order
As the sunlight sets the clouds aflame, do you not wonder of how they became?
If the monster lives in the depths of Loch Ness,
And the Yeti prowls the nights in the Northwest
He is their Maker - both the Giver of Life, the quencher of strife
From the world's first dividing cell to the loneliest quarters of hell

Inject Me by Pop Will Eat Itself

I'm the boy without a soul
No hot love, no worldly goal
Inject me, inject me
Cut the lights, and shut the doors
Use, abuse, take me I'm yours
Inject me, inject me...

Sometimes I feel I'm just not real
I can see a blur but I just can't feel my way
My head's in disarray
Can't face today, today
I've no ambition and no direction
I drift offworld to avoid detection
My mind's distracted by the light refracted...
Disengaged, A.W.O.L., inactive

I'm the boy without a soul
No hot love, no worldly goal
Inject me, inject me...
Got to fix this empty head
'Cos life's a bitch and then you're dead,
Inject me, inject me...

Obscene white light, too bright, too frightening
My friend, my bed's inviting
Time's elastic and passions are plastic
In the land of quicksand: the psyche fantastic
Ha! Ha! Look at me Ma!
I'm on top of the world, can you see that far?
I can fly as high as the sky, I am sci-fi!
You care to say, "Hi!"...I say bye-bye

My positronic ray will blast the day away
And keep you all at bay so be warned!
I'm surfin' the dead zone
In the twilight, unknown
Singin' my own imaginary songs to cruise along to
A sex goddess, all mine, to belong to...
You can play it for her, you can play it for me
A dream melody to resurrect me...

I'm the boy without a soul
No hot love, no worldly goal
Inject me, inject me...
Cut the lights, and shut the doors
Use, abuse, take me I'm yours
Inject me, inject me...

"Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh" (x2)
"You played it for her, now play it for me - play it!"

Inject me, inject me...
Caress me, impress me, use me, abuse me
Inject me, inject me..(cut the lights and shut the doors)
Inject me, inject me..(use, abuse, take me, I'm yours)
Inject me, inject me..

I wish I was in the land of cotton,
old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land.
In Dixie land where I was born in, early on a frosty mornin',
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land.

Chorus:

Then I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.

Fuel - Innocent

Satan, you know I lie
Gently I go into that good night
all our lives get complicated
search for pleasures overrated
never armed our souls
for what the future would hold
when we were Innocent

Angels, lend me your might
forfeit all my lives to get just on right
all those colors long since faded
all our smiles are confiscated
never were we told
wed be bough and sold
when we were Innocent

This prayer is for me tonight
this far down that line and still ain't got it right
and while confessions not yet stated
our next sin is contemplated
never did we know
what the future would hold ro that wed be bought and sold
when we were Innocent

My sig is my favorite lyrics quote. Beatles were brilliant men.

My second favorite would probably be several lyrics out of "November Rain"
Lovers always come and lovers always go but no one's really sure jsut let it go today. Walking away.
But if you take the time to lay it on the line I can rest my head just knowing that you are mine. All mine.

and

I know it's hard to keep and open heart, when even friends seem out to harm you.
But if you can heal a broken heart, then wouldn't time be out to charm you.

Schola, got a few typo's in your quote, but still a good song. One of my fav quotes is from a one hit wonder, Harvey Danger's "Paranoia". "..if you're bored then you're boring."

Adia by Sara McLaughlin

Adia I do believe I failed you
Adia I know I let you down
don't you know I tried so hard
to love you in my way
it's easy let it go...

Adia I'm empty since you left me
trying to find a way to carry on
I search myself and everyone
to see where we went wrong

'cause there's no one left to finger
there's no one here to blame
there's no one left to talk to honey
and there ain't no one to buy our innocence
'cause we are born innocent
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter
does it matter?

Adia I thought we could make it
but I know I can't change the way you feel
I leave you with your misery
a friend who won't betray
I pull you from your tower
I take away your pain
and show you all the beauty you possess
if you'd only let yourself believe that

we are born innocent
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter, does it matter?
believe me Adia, we are still innocent

'cause we are born innocent
Adia we are still
it's easy, we all falter ... but does it matter?

I love that song, I find it beautiful. :)

Here is one of the best, if not the best (IMO), song lyrics of all time.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun,
but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught,
or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the fields
The tolling of an iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell
--Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd

Other ones I like:

I close my eye's, only for a moment and the moments gone.
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity.
--Kansas, Dust in the Wind

All the words had all been spoken,
and somehow the feeling still wasn't right.
And still we continued on through the night.

Tracing our steps from the beginning,
Until they vanished into the air,
trying to understand how our lives had led us there.

Looking hard into your eyes,
there was nobody I'd ever known.
Such an empty suprise,
to feel so alone.
--Jackson Browne, Late for the Sky

So I open my door to my enemies,
And I ask them can we wipe the slate clean?
They tell me to please go and fvck myself.
You know you just can?t win.
--Pink Floyd, Division Bell

Nine Inch Nails - Thats What I Get

Just when everything was making sence
You took away all my self-confidence
Now all that I've Been Hearing Must be True
I Guess im not the only boy for you

Thats what i get. Thats what i get. Thats what i get.

How can you turn me into this.
After you just taught me how to kiss
youuu...
I Told you i'd never say goodbye.
Now im slipping on the tears you've made my cry

but thats what i get. thats what i get. thats what i get. thats what i get.
