I've been to Indy, Hawai'i, Vancouver and Banff, and Vancouver seemed the best place to me.
I'm 16 ande from the UK, if I was going to move across the Atlantic, Vancouver would be my place.
Vancouver BC Canada, or Vancouver Washington USA. And, Banff is in Canada by the way.

vancouver's climate is awesome. rarely gets hot in summer (usually the highest is about 28 celsius and that's pretty rare) and during winter it doesn't get very cold either. rains a lot during fall to spring - i love it but might be a problem to some people
yeah! The winter sucks like the UK north coast rain & more rain, with the average of 96 hours worth sun in the winter.
Victoria is a much nicer city to live compare to Vancouver. At 1/4 of the population, 1/4 of trafics problem,4X the sun shine, and a heck of a lot prettier and cleaner when compare to Vancouver.

Actually, don't come here we don't need any more people 😛

If you like smaller cities, Victoria is nice. For me though, the bigger the better!

I don't know how you people can stand living in areas where it snows several months a year. The snow always make me lazy and umotivated, it's relatively proven that winter is more depressing time than summer. What is wrong with a nice, sunny climate where it drops below freezing for two nights a year? Where it never snows? Sure it gets up to the upper 90s two months of the year, but that means swimming feels all that much better and besides, every building has good A/C so if you're inside and working 9-5 I don't see why it matters anyways.

You're going to have to tell us what you want to do for a living, how much money you will have saved by the time you move, etc. Like everyone else said, tke a vacation and come over here for a month or two. Travel around to a few different places and see how you like it. Chicago is pretty coool, lots to do, but expensive to live in the city.

If your looking fo mild weather, Washington might suit you.

Its mostly rainy and cloudy. You also might like Oregon. Both of these places are great to explore. Lots of open space, lots of trees and mountains.

If your looking for a city-ish scene, San Francsico has mild winters a cool summers.

US does not suck...its a very large country...stay out of california if you can help it. I believe the one thing that will take some getting used to is the open space. Streets are wider and everything is built bigger. Washington and Oregon are very nice. Youmight even consider the east coast...New England states.

Boston's a fun place to live (as long as you don't mind all the slush 😛).

Plusses:
It's comparitively expensive for the US, but still less expensive than the UK.
Great sports scene (even though the Red Sox haven't won the big one since 1918, we still love them and hate the Yankees).
It will feel moderately similar to the UK, although there's no place in the US that is cmpletely identical.
Great universities (Tufts is a particularly hidden gem, besides the more famous ones).
The tech jobs here are pretty good, but are suffering a bit from the economy. 🙁

Generally, the people here are pretty liberal. I don't know if that is a plus of a minus for you, kbut I thought you should know. 🙂

Minuses:
The people here are somewhat provincial (but less so than New Yorkers) and often the locals don't have a great knowlege of the outside world.
The traffic sucks.
People often give directions on where things used to be (my dad has started doing this and he's a transplant 😛).
The public transportation is very widespread and pretty cheap but is not in the absolute best shape (except for the commuter rail, which is pretty good).

PM me if you have any further questions.
I hope this was of some help in your decision-making.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, im not bothered about jobs, agriculture, wagon driving or IT are all things i would consider. I dont really know how much i will have saved up, just a matter of how hard i work i guess 😉 maybe renting would be an idea.
Elemental 007 i love snow i would rather be cold than hot, i will have to look into vancouver, im not particulalrly picky about things like living in the best areas...i live in probably the most boring part of the UK so there you go. I think the best idea for me right now would be to take a holiday to the usa and include canada with that and see what i think after that .
J Heartless i dont have dark skin just very burnt right now so no problems there 😉
I guess im looking at between 100-140k to get set up in life over there which seems about right....could be working VERY hard 😉. Thanks for all your help guys

It is a lot hotter than 31C in most of the US today. There is no socialized medicine or healthcare so you will have to pay for that. Other then that, there are 30k murders in the US (I think that is what I read) in the US every year. I think those are probably the two biggest changes.

You should also be aware that living in America will pre-dispose you to becoming a fat-so.

I visit quite frequently, and it never ceases to amaze me how fat a good deal of people in the USA are. Just try to order something healthy like a salad.... enjoy the cheese and creamy dressing and sides of bread, etc, etc.

The middle class in the US has more food than they know what to do with. Couple that with driving everywhere and no exercise....It's crazy.

(yes Im generalizing, but it's true for the most part).

Also, soccer (football) isn't nearly as big here. It's hockey, basketball, football and baseball (sorta like cricket). Ultimately you need to do some research and pick a region you want to move to. Then we might be able to answer your questions a little easier.

i was born in the uk, but i left as a kid. i'm betting the weather here in northern ca is better🙂 warm, no snow in winter unless you drive a few hours(3-4) north to ski, and no constant rain🙂

course you could move to washington or something and experience a simulation of uk weather😛

different population makeup in different areas too. like in ca many parts are a decent mix, my school had atleast 30% asian. and well its probably 50+% in college🙂 there are hispanics and asian indians too. but if you go to the middle states its all white and black people😛

stay away from utah, mormons are nutz! 🙂

If you have dark skin, I would, if Iwere you, seriously think about not coming to the US. In the US, dark skin is a BIG issue and sometimes a deadly issue.

Heard being white in the Middle East wasn't too healthy either. It's only an issue if you go to Redneckville or around low educated trailertrash.

However, the police have guns here and don't go chasing after thiefs with whistles and billy clubs. They just tell them to stop and if they don't shoot them. Also, you can purchase a firearm to defend your person and property. You are also going to have to wait awhile longer to get booze 21 y/o limit. Canada is probably better climate wise and cost of living is about equal considering the Canadian dollar's low exchange rate vs other currency. They have guaranteed(communistic) health care. It's pretty crappy so your high risk procedures as well as those with money get surgeries done in the States.

Only bad thing would be you don't get paid crap and if you want to live in a large metropolitan area, you are major SOL unless you have a VERY nice job.

Isn't that the same in the US too? Large metropolitan = much more competition for job, and in today's economy means no job for people with no experience.
Also, non-citizen can't buy gun in the US.

Canada sounds like the uk then...the national health service over here sucks generally ppl with money go private....same goes for the no experience/no job i think i will have to look into it much more before i make any kind of a descision but it looks as though canda would suit me well. Thanks for all your help 😀

IF you like snow stay in the northern half of the country, Michigan has a great agriculture tradition and one of the better agriculture schools in Michigan State University. Lots of snow in the winter (most of the time) , unfortunately the summers can be quite hot, though this summer has been pretty mild only a couple weeks in the 90's so far. IT jobs are pretty sparse but I guess it depends on what part of IT you are in. Travelling IT jobs and temp jobs are usually available and tend to pay pretty well.

You want to move to the US without education??? Well, if flipping burgers is your thing and u dont care about having a home it might be a good idea.

No really I wouldnt even remotely consider going to the US without College education. Unless you are rich and can afford the outrageous US Univerity fees, or u have such a good business idea that u can make it on your own. BTW to be allowed to work u need a green card and those are hard to come by - but if u are lucky u might win one in these lotteries. Dunno if there are other ways.

Pacific Northwest if you want UK like weather.

But that's to cold for me. Come on down south were it's hot a muggy in the summer 🙂

Is that true? That sounds scary. Havent they heard of "Comparativeness of means" (dunno if that is the right translation) BAsically means: u break self defense if: threatened by a club, u pull a gun and shoot in the head. -> u charged with murder - well no, but i guess it would be manslaughter

Also u cannot simply kill a person, u can disable them (shoot in the legs, whatver nonlethal to stop the offender) Well maybe is is different culture: Here the respect for life is quite high nowadays, that is why we also dont do wars anymore, and dont kill our prisoners.
