This thread makes me want to go to the store and get a beer. Unfortunately they don't sell anything decent here that comes in anything under a six-pack. :(

We made our own Mojitos this evening with fresh mint and homemade simple syrup.

What are you drinking? :wine:

Love mojitos but don't have the patience to make it from scratch like you.
we wanted to see if it was worth making and it's really easy. you can get the syrup premade at the grocery store, then rum, lime juice and mint. top it off with ice and club soda :)

I know what you mean. Don't get me wrong, I like to see what stuff tastes like from scratch but half the time I realize it's so not worth it. For example, I made Kung Pao sauce from scratch. It's neither cheap, quick, or easy. It's pretty difficult actually. In the end, I spent 2 hours making dinner when a store bought bottle would have tasted BETTER (probably) and would have taken no time at all.

I have the premade syrup from Cost Plus (World Market). I just mix it with light rum. I guess if I wanted to make it more "fresh" I could add some crushed mint and fresh lime juice.

Budweiser.. I wish I would've been asked last night because it would've been Pike Kilt Lifter and Obsidian Stout, and I wouldn't feel so cheap.

good woman. now make me a cocktail.
:Q

If you want good ice for cocktails you can buy the crushed stuff or chip your own block ala basic instinct style.

The secret to a good mojito/old fashioned is the muddling. If you can get a wooden meddling stick or you can use a mortar and pestle (sp?).

A 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieux Telegraphe. A great wine, albeit still a year or two young as the tannins are still a little ripe. Tastes of light tobacco, ripe red fruit with slight strawberry dominance and vanilla to finish off the bouquet. Light finish with the tannins becoming more pronounced and a pronounced cherry note to complete.
