If all goes as planned, our "survival kit" will include our house and property.

~1hr from town, 10+ acres with a creek. That's our criteria. Walls, doors and windows a bonus. :p

I plan on being off the grid within 5 years of home ownership, hopefully much sooner. If the shit hits the fan in the next 5-30 years, we'll be ready.
You have guns?

According to some morons out there, I guess 60 pounds of gold is what will make them survive.

No, I'm going to have steal some kidneys.
Though given societal collapse lifespans might fall enough for that to not be an issue.

Protection from other humans... people are are#@$@#$@# and will try to kill you then take your stuff.
Hunting doesn't actually need a rifle.

Either a AR-15(5.56) or a FN FAL(308) and 200-300 rounds for each. With them ammo should be easy to find and i can take what i need from other less fortunate people.

Hell I just realized I may be moving to Cali soon. Change that to a Mosin Nagant and ammo.

The world dissolves into anarchy and we're forced to live Mad Max style.

You're limited to 60 lbs of equipment or one hiking backpack of items and anything you can strap on it.

My list:

Water Purification - MSR SweetWater ~2lbs

Shelter - Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 ~2lbs

Bedding - Marmot Plasma sleeping bag ~2lbs

Tool/Knife - Leatherman Multitool ~ 0.5 lbs

Tool/Knife - Machete ~ 2 lbs

Protection/Hunting - Walther P22 pistol ~ 1lbs + 1lb ammo

Protection/Hunting - Mission Craze +10 arrows ~5lbs

First Aid Kit/Surgical Kit/Basic Drugs ~ 3 lbs

Communication - Midland XT511 crank radio/CB/flashlight, USB charging ~3lbs

Lighter/Waterproof matches/Tinder/Magnesium ~1lb

Compact Fishing pole and accessories ~ 2 lbs

Backpacking solar panel - ~3 lbs

Laptop ~ 4 lbs

Paracord 500' - 5 lbs

Portable Saw - ~ 0.5 lbs

Hammer/Pry Bar/Hatchet - ~4lbs

Binoculars ~ 0.5 lbs

Rain Gear/Tarp ~ 4 lbs

Mess kit - ~3 lbs

Assorted Nails, Screws ~2 lbs

Cordless Multitool ~ 5 lbs

5 Freeze dried meals and some energy bars ~2.5 lbs

Total = 57.5 lbs

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I think I could survive with this. Chime in with things missing or things you'd add.

Let's break it down by KG to be scientific. 60 lbs = 27.22 kilos.

2 kg cocaine, 25.22 left

3.4 kg's 22 LR rounds(2000), 21.82 left

Ruger 10/22 2.4 kg, 19.32 left.

50 troy ounces gold 1.56 kg, 17.76 kg left.

Seeds 1 kg( more than I can plant) 16.76 left

Tarp(2.5m x2.5m) 7 kg, 9.76 kg left.

1 gallon water 3.79 kg, 5.79 kg left.

Beef Jerky(3 lbs) 1.36 kg, 4.43 kg left

1 gallon water 3.79 kg, .64 kgs left.

.64 kg's M&M's.

Edit: Yay 2 gallons of water!

A pound of weed, some bags of Doritos, a few fifths of Beam, and a gun with a bullet for when it's all gone.

what do you plan to do with these kidneys? install them yourself, should the need arise?

you know, and I imagine this wasn't your intent, but organs--and especially kidneys--are great for survival. They are generally quite sterile and as such, can be eaten raw. Heavy protein and iron, keep for a long time, and the fact that you don't need to make a fire to cook and consume them (waste of energy + fire that would reveal your location to wasteland bandits) makes for great food.

seriously--these are true stories from people escaping the Gulag during Stalinist Russia. You convince some sap to escape with you, make it a few miles out, murder him and take his kidneys, then flee. (fires would signal the guards; they expect you to die anyway in Siberian winter; organs = best protein store available to prisoners)

badass.

I like the way you think.

particularly because OP never specified whether there was a I need to survive or not--if it was the true end of the world, or maybe reason to hang on.

I think I'd be fine. I'd have to swap the coal stove with a wood stove though, for heat during the winter. There's enough state forest behind me that I could graze my goats sustainably with an endless supply of meat. Not to mention all the deer, rabbits, squirrels, etc. Plenty of fruit, lots of garden space; and I could make a hand pump for my well so that I wouldn't have to worry about water.

Hey, speaking of weed - (Cyco's post) - I went over to one of the Amish neighbors down the road for some produce (watermelon, some squash, corn on the cob, peach preserves, and peppers) - when my wife and I got out of the car, "hey, that smells like pot, doesn't it??" - that wasn't tobacco in those pipes that the Amish guys were smoking in the barn :p :D
