Is that name going as well?? I just read the bit on the frontpage about conroe-L and how its aimed at the value sector. So the celeron brand is going down the pan along with pentium?? Please say no! I liked that name!

You liked the name Celeron? Why? Because it was so unique that you'd never forget which processor NOT to buy?

LOL!! Hey, Celerons have their uses. Offer great bang for buck when o/c'd and they tend to o/c rather well. (Most of what I have seen).

I have two rigs here (one for my wife and one for my son) and both use Celerons.
My wife does not game, just email, web, some apps. My son just plays those little educational games like JumpStart. He loves em. I bet he doesn't care that he's doing it all on a Celeron. :D Celerons have their uses.

They really should dump the Celeron moniker.

It has a bad rep amongst the non-geek community, even though the newer ones aren't bad.

forget celeron, get a low end Sempy 64 or low end conroe when it comes out and OC them to like 200% over base and you got a monster rig for like pennies.

I think we are all wondering what Intel will offer as the "new Celeron", and what they will call it. Somebody said Core 2 Solo. Just for the record, this new Intel naming scheme bites the big wide load buttocks. IMHO.

That would be nice if overclocking was guaranteed, and if a 200% overclock was common, or even possible without liquid nitrogen.

Celeron "D" is still around, and even works with 64 bit windows. Fry's has a celeron 326 with ecs board for only $49.99 in today's ad.

Intel and Via are currently working together on a new product based on the Celeron. This will be aimed at sub-entry level users who have no idea what hardware they're buying.

It will be known as the 'Celerix M4' and will be available for those who wish to run Word 97 @ 'blistering' framerates of up to 25 FPS....

;)
