What's happening in Dawn of War 2 these days?

I was really into DoW2 when it was first released and for the few months after that. Played a lot online, but eventually other games and real life shit grabbed my attention and I haven't played DoW2 in maybe 5 or 6 months.

Well I'm putting together a new PC soon and plan on getting back into DoW2. Just wondering if there have been any significant patches, additional maps, DLC etc? Is the online community still active? I read somewhere about an upcoming expansion but I believe that's not due until around April next year.

DOW2 got a 2v2 mode, major re balancing, a survival mode, and there's an expansion coming out soonish.

I was around when the 2v2 was added and stopped playing shortly after the major rebalance (not because it ruined the game, to the contrary the rebalance patch was freaking awesome). I just read about the survival mode and it sounds great, can't wait to get back into this. If I remember correctly the major rebalance patch was v1.3, I see we're now at v1.9 which is amazing. Relic really is great at supporting the community with a ton of content and bug fixes.

Relic only puts out so many patches merely out of necessity, because their balancing team is a room of trained monkeys. That said, I think things have somewhat stabilized now........ JUST IN TIME FOR AN EXPANSION WITH A NEW FACTION! CoH all over again I think. Game is still fun though.

No, Relic puts out a lot of patches because RTS fans are the most difficult whinging wankers to pelase. Personally I absolutely LOVE CoH. I never thought it was significantly out of balance, but they kept releasing patches anyway. Every time they fixed one issue people would start bitching about another one. RTS fans are completely unappreciative of the effort put in by great companies such as Relic.

I guess you just suck so much at CoH you dont realise how unbalanced it is.

Yeah, I do suck at RTS games. Hoenstly, I don't play them that much, but I enjoy CoH a lot even though I'm not good at it. Like I said, when people get passionate at RTS games they become unpleasable complaining dipshits. They focus their whinging on tiny little issues which become absolutely huge in their tiny little minds. They forget how to enjoy the games for what they are - and games like CoH, DoW et al are just plain fun.

The annoying part is until maybe the most recent patch, I felt the beta release of DoW2 was the most (or closest to being) balanced.

The Last Stand is most awesome...

I was late to start but my first game, I was with a level 16 and level 17.. we reached Wave 16 (out of 20) and it was WAY cool.

Since each wave is the same in each game (but entering at random sides) it can get a bit repetitive. In my case, I moved on from Fallen Earth to DoW2:TLS, Torchlight then Dragon Age Origins so really I moved onto better things :)

Is Last Stand really unforgiving? Like, DOTA unforgiving? I'd love to try it, I've had it since it came out but I've been terrified of just jumping in with strangers without having even learned how it's different. The fact that you absolutely MUST play co-op is mildly annoying, but I'm not ruling it out.

Never played DoTA so cant compare.

It is not unforgiving. The first few rounds are easy.... Round 4 gives you a bit of a challenge but it is still easy (First ever bosses so it's 'different')

Round 7 and 8 are a little bit challenging. Been knocked out once or twice at that level but in one instance one played dropped and in another, we just didnt pull together properly.

Round 11 and 12 are most hated by me. Typically in a game you will reach Round 11 or 12 and die, either through lack of experience, lack of tactics or a bit of bad luck.

After that, I don't find it too bad until Round 16 which I have never been past.

My SM reached level 15 which gave him some interesting abilities. It is definitely worth experimenting with different equipment loadouts although in my personal opinion, a teleport/jump pack is a necessity as soon as it becomes available. Your characters lack mobility and the teleport.jump pack gives them just that.

The last stand is pretty tough, and requires good teamwork, strategy, and exploitation of the computer AI.

I've made it to level 19, but have yet to be able to make it any farther.

I recently downloaded a copy of Dawn of War 2. As I start the game the videos work fine but when I hit the menu screen the frame rate is terrible! My computer is well up to the minimum requirements and plays games with higher requirements than this smoothly. Even if I set the video settings to low it still has the same issue. Does anyone know how I can fix this

Hmm, then are the people who play usually civil to noobs? And do I have to use voice chat? Thanks for your reply.

Civil: Yes, very civil... no-one ever badmouths etc.

Voice: Not required, never heard anyone use it.
