everytime i power on my computer, it powers on for about 5 secs, then it does down (or at least all the fans die) then powers back up and boot up properly. Pressing the reset button results in a similar fashion:powers off, then restarts normally. what can be wrong? for reference:
intel 6420
abit ip35
ocz 2gb ram (2x1GB) spec ops run at same bus as cpu
evga 8600gt
antec sonata 3 case w/500 psu.

all components are running at stock speed except the ram which is running lower than its advertised speed. thanks

I think your just hearing the cpu fan, which is normal during boot-up, when you turn your computer on, fan runs at full speed, i know she cranks, during that time(5 secs) the cpu registers the temp and slows fan speed. Cpu will adjust fan speed to cool processor, temps rise the fan will increase for more cooling.

hrm, im sure the system powers down then powers back up. i have the side open and looking at the fan and it does die, although not all the way because the system does not shut off long enough for the fans to come to a complete stop. still not sure whats going on after checking some bios options and rechecking the front case connectors. any other suggestions?

That happens with my mobo if I change BIOS settings. I've heard many others experience the same thing with different motherboards, it's just one of those things your mobo does.

YEah, some of the new motherboards do it. It's really strange, but I think it's normal.

yeah..that blows. just found out from abit's tech forum that its a 'normal' behavior of the ip35 series. sucks. wish they come out with a fix soon.
