What's going on with alerts? Big inaccurate numbers for many days now.

Every day for several days, Alerts say 20-30+ alerts, but when I click on them there are only 2 or 3. Example just now, it showed 25, but when I click on it, there are only 3... Nothing that important but it just started acting strangely recently. Each day I normally see 2-4 alerts reported. Now it's 20-30+.

Strange, I'm not noticing that. Have you tried (if you were watching) unwatching a couple of the busier topics you participated in recently, like these?

NV 12VHPWR issues revisited

He gets a 4090 almost every day with a melted connector. He also says it's common for the connector to fully snap off 4xxx cards. These videos are only a few days old. Why aren't tech sites reporting these ongoing incidents? What the heck is going on here? This abomination of a connector...

Same topics I was watching before. In the past one watched topic will not generate multiple increases.

Also when I visit all the active watched topics, the number only decreases by 2 or 3... The 2 or 3 I would normally see.

Except now there are 20+ extra notices that don't show up in either my watched topics, nor under the Alerts themselves.

Unless they are battling a bunch of spam topics lately in a watched forum, and by the time I check, they have been cleaned up, so I don't see anything, but the count is still high...

I don't know if affected your notifications but we did delete about 130 spam threads so far today. I don't know what sin we committed to suddenly gain the spammers attention, but they have been very busy posting here lately and we are keeping busy getting rid of them.

That is a very likely explanation.

I have a Forum Watch on some low traffic forums, and a bunch of new posts would give me alerts, but you are probably cleaning them up before I check, so the posts are gone, then they disappear out of my alert list, but the counter persist.

Almost ironic, that we got spam post in this thread. These spam threads are definitely the issue, and I get a morning counter of how bad the problem currently is.

I think I'd be tempted to just shut down new accounts for a while. I can' imagine this forum is legitimately growing that much...

Perhaps we just ban any post that mentioned TEMU.

In the "old days", the admins had the ability to ban certain words, like TEMU for instance.
But when we changed to Xen foro from vB, we admins lost that ability.
