Two people have been killed and many are injured after a series of explosions across London. The BBC News website is covering events as they unfold (all times in BST):
1215 The ambulance service says there are people still trapped at King's Cross station, and efforts are being made to rescue them
1210 The BBC's Security Correspondent Frank Gardner says BBC monitoring services have located a website linked to al-Qaeda with a 200-word statement saying it carried out the bombings
1205 Prime Minister Tony Blair, at the G8 summit in Gleneagles, says there has been "a series of terrorist attacks in London... people have died and are seriously injured... It is reasonably clear this is designed and timed to coincide with the opening of the G8". He says he will return to London within hours, but that the summit will continue without him

Cell and telephone lines in London are jammed but I don't know about Scotland. Besides, Bush has all the equipment he needs on Air Force One to start WWIII, so I think he can call anyone he needs to. More like the guy he was trying to reach was in the shower!

Conjur, this is another in a series of events to re-shape the world.
Watch for the reaction from the Brits over the next few days. My guess is the reaction will be similar but not nearly as dramatic as here. If the reaction isn't what the true orchestrators of this attack want, look for more attacks to come.

what is happening there now is that terrorists from all over the world came to Iraq, but otherwise they would be doing the same things in Afganistan or Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, Egypt or Palestine...

Bush created the breeding ground for terror in Iraq. After he was warned that his invasion would create a breeding ground for terrorists. There were no terrorists in Iraq pre-invasion. Anyone who believes there were is ignoring all of the information and investigaions conducted since Bush launched his unprovoked aggression against Iraq.

Sure. The want Britain to engage in the fear tactics that this administration did in the wake of 9/11 (rushing legislation through that does little to advance the "war on terror" while allowing the gov't more control over individual lives; instilling fear in its citizens with faux terror warnings and runs on duct tape and plastic sheeting)
These attacks will not re-shape the world in the ways these terrorists want but I fear it will re-shape the world in ways that are not what's best for the world. We've already seen the irrational reactions of this administration and the Mises Effect it has imposed in Iraq.
But not Iraq.
And Egypt? Saudi Arabia? Fifteen of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis and Bush STILL hasn't done one damn thing about them. And Osama is still on the loose. While Bush wastes resources in Iraq, a nation that sponsored NO terrorists.

You mean like the total dearth of terrorists that were in Iraq before the US invaded? They were all in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, Morocco, Algiers, Europe and elsewhere. I supposed we should just keep invading nations until we're One World Under Bush?
I'm currently staying in Arizona on holiday from my job in London, the explosions happened on a route i travel 5 times a week. Thankfully it seems I chose a good time to go on holiday, my sister and my brother who normally are nowhere near London however ironically are both now stuck there due to my sister having just left the underground station near Kings Cross moments before the explosion. I just got through to my parents who say my brother was also working right where the explosion the bus went off. From what i can tell there are more casualties coming in than the news seems to be reporting for now, i have a friend working in one of the main hospitals nearby and it seems that large numbers of people were rushed to the hospital. From what i can tell things are fairly calm in London in general based on other friends talking to me from work via msn at the moment, but there are still people trapped underground. Anyone who uses the London Underground will allready know how horrendous during rush hour without this happening. I feel very sorry for those people that are stuck down there I can't even begin to imagine what it's like. I hope that this doesn't all get used as political capital for installing these stupid ID cards and the other laws that are rolling back liberties that took us centuries to gain in my country.
GTaudiophile I have to ask, since when did orders of magnitude become relevant to the loss of life in a situation like this. Even one life lost due to something like this should be taken seriously. I'm sure it's little comfort to the family that their dead relative was not part of another 9/11.
For those of you saying pull out of Iraq however... You go in and cause the mess you better clean it up is my opinion on that one. I didn't support our reasons for going in but i do support the work our troops are attempting to do over there in a very difficult situation. I would love for them to be able to come home but now surely is not the time.

The terrorists are really pawns as well. Its part of the same reason as why we have seen attacks throughout the world after 9/11 while seeing none here... The attacks on 9/11 did their job. There is no need for more here while Bush is President.
How would you suggest fighting it then?
These attacks are not because there are troops in Iraq - people are going to incorrectly tie them together. They started well before the war in Iraq and will continue for decades. It is a war fought in shadows and with intelligence. Just because it cannot be seen as a traditional war does not mean that there is not a life and death pull behind the scenes.
The war on terror is real. At its heart are a few thousand men and women dedicated to destroying everything that the West values. They see it as their job to spread Islam and to destroy Capitalism and prosperity.
People need to wake up and see what is really going on. Instead of tying to make this an Iraq war issue, understand that this started three decades ago.
The problem is, we are letting them win. By politicizing these events (as the Spanish did) we lose, and we lose big. These are the same people that have seen that their actions can indeed turn world events in their favor. These are the same people that know the media is their ally in spreading terror. Treat them as they are, inhumane a$$holes that need a bullet in the head.
