ALL rental cars are sold out!!! WTF!

First I thought it was Expedia glitch, and I tried Orbitz. Same thing. Ok, must be a common aggregator failure. Let's try individual rental:
- National: no cars
- Avis: no cars
- Hertz: call location, can't reserve

WHA?

It's Denver, it's winter. They get a lot of snow. Probably flooded with insurance/body shop calls. That's the bread and butter of the rental business. Rental companies work the same way airlines do for retail. They overbook. You should ideally book at least a week in advance with their call centre and confirm your reservation with the location. Most locations don't keep a lot of cars on the lot for obvious reasons. Getting stuff on short notice can be problematic as a result.

But this is not Bumfuck, Ohio - it's one of the biggest international airports in the US. And not just one rental agency being booked completely - all of them! In the middle of a week with no national holiday in sight.

This is recockulous!
Hopefully I'll get something at the counter.

a lot of people go skiing for presidents day holiday? monday IS the federal holiday.

OP: Are you trying to rent a specific class of car or just any car? Denver rental companies load up on SUVs for the winter ski crowds.

any car!!!
Worst comes to worst, I;ll take a taxi to Northglenn where I actually will be staying, and there are rentals available there.
