I thought poke was raw fish and not smoked? Anyway, I'm trying to understand this recent poke popularity. There's couple poke dedicated restaurants that opened recently near me. I've had poke from Costco and I don't recommend that. All you taste with Costco poke is massive amount of sesame oil. Sesame oil should be used sparingly as it can easily overpower any food and flavor. Poke just seems to be Hawaiian version of Japanese Chirashi bowl or Korean Hoe-deopbap. Nothing special. I eat Hoe-deopbap fairly often since I usually have fresh ahi tuna at my house. I had it for lunch yesterday. But I've cut back eating ahi tuna to about once every 10 days or so since I learned the dangers of Mercury poisoning.

I don't know what it's /supposed/ to be like. I'm only aware of it due to a newish Hawaiian restaurant that opened nearby. I haven't had the poke there, but saw it on the menu. Everything in the aldi bowl was restrained imo. Not loaded with oil or anything.

Your food looks good :^)

Pan roasted duck breast, roasted potatoes (salt, pepper, garlic powder, rosemary), and sauteed green beans. I used too much butter/time for the green beans so they were softer than I like, but still good. I remembered to take a picture this time.

I love duck. Rendered duck fat takes home fries (or just potatoes in general) to a whole different level. One of these days I'll fry French toast in duck fat.

Tonight will be my first time making French onion soup. I can't wait for that.

Red Lobster's Nashville shrimp with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Pretty tasty, but the shrimp were too sweet.

Smoked rack of pork, steamed rice, and roasted sweet potato. I used cherry wood to smoke the pork until the internal hit 140 F on the Kamado Joe Jr. Then cranked the temperature on the Joe Jr. and finished seared for couple minutes on high heat. The bone-in pork loin was perfect. Great cherry smoke flavor and juicy and moist. Probably the best pork loin I've ever had. Way better than sous vide pork loin. No contest.

Made French onion soup for the first time and it came out pretty damn good. There are a couple of things I can do better next time, but it was very rich and filling; after I finished the first bowl I tried to have a second but I just couldn't do it. Definitely better than a couple of restaurants' versions, though.

I also made a basic salad with diced leftover duck breast.
