I want to know, Am I just lucky or do all PIII 550E's O/C to 733 with out problems? I have mine on an ASUS P3V4X w/ a peltier cooler.

I'm running mine stable at 733mhz, P3V4X, 1.7v, generic slotkit, golden orb. Have run it at 792mhz, but my GeForce DDR does not like that high of a bus speed. Ran 792 no problem with my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI.

Got another Question, how high do you think I can go? 733 is fast but hey how far can it really be pushed? I have the 3 fan peltier cooler on it with 2 88mm exaust fans (with a boot that goes over the top of the processor) and 2 more case fans. Any Ideas, post it or email me at alphacowboy@hotmail.com or alphacowboy@prodigy.net

Thats Interesting, I always had better luck with O/C my BX board with my V3 3000 board too! Go figure... do you have the slot1 550 or the socket370. Mine is the slot1.

I just sold my 550E@787 (143FSB) and kept my MSI 6309 for my new 700E. When I put together that system for me, I was also in the process of building two other PC's using 550E's. Before picking the CPU for my machine, I put all three on a bench and played around. All 3 would do 787, two at 1.75 volts, one at 1.8 volts. All used retail HSF.

BTW, the 700E won't boot at 143FSB but is happy to plod along stabily at 933 using retail HSF.

I made it! I 'll get some pics if you want! It was sort of a painin the ass because of the design of my case but shoot me an e-mail address and I'll shoot you some pics!

I have p3v4x and p3 550 running 100% stable at 853 mhz (155 fsb 1,75 v, gorb). My ram is at cas 2-2-2 (mosel vitelic 7 ns), this mobo, cpu and ram are the best things I could bought, and I still today hardly belive my eyez when I switch my computer to ON!

760 mhz on an MSI 6309 @138 FSB, retail HS and default voltage, runs a nice cool 36C running RC5.

Just got my p3v4x yesterday and I've got my 550e (w/ alpha/pep66 ) running at 804 at 1.65V. I'm pretty pleased to say the least.

Does 803 at 1.75v

It's down to 733 in a server. New speed king's my PIII-650 cb0 that does 975 stable on an Abit SE6 at 1.8v

Both use Alpha HSF units. 550E's a Slot1, 650 cb0 is FC-PGA.

My non cb0 650 does 806 at 1.8v core. Alpha HSF as well.

My P3V4X can run my 550 @ 814, however, for stability I usually run at 804. This is a slot 1 processor. Very pleased with this setup.

Has anyone tried to overclock a P3 550e on a Abit BX6 2.0? I am still running a celeron 300a @ 450 mHz and am looking to upgrade. I know the 550e's will run at 733 on a 133 fsb, but if my motherboard can't do that reliably I'll go with the Celeron II 566 @ 850 on the 100 fsb setting. If my mb is reliable, any thoughts on should I pay the extra for the 550e, or save my money and use the celery?

slot1 550e at 891 on a P3C 2000, 1.7v (currently running 825 1.65v). I'm pushing to max out the board and go for 180mhz bus, but heat seems to be the only thing holding me back. Ram is fine since the i820 chipset sets sdram speed at 120mhz at 162mhz bus (?????)

Abit is evil! Had two, threw out two! Question, I have 512MB of PC100 SDRAM, As I posted earlier I can run the 550E at 733 without problems, but as soon as I go further than 133MHz she will boot up too 146MHz but will lock up. I tried the core voltage (pretty much figured it wouldn't work but it was worth a shot) but still no luck! If I upped the memory too PC133 spec memory, how far do you think I could go? But purchasing 512MB of PC133 could get very very expensive! Anyway any ideas?

did some tweaking & got the 550 up to 804mhz (146mhz bus) on the P3V4X. 1.8v. Windows stable & will play unreal tournament. Quake 3 & 3D Mark crash it though. The fastest I can run & do everything is 750mhz. Its not worth trying to but the Voodoo 3 back in to keep it up there. Running at 733mhz, is good enough for me. No need to crank up the voltage for a few mhz that I cannot even tell the difference between.

550e FC-PGA @ 792 not rock solid but good for most things memory at 333

@782 Rock solid memory at 222

Abit BE6_II
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP

without the 1/2 AGP my V3 3000 just wont run Quake time demo for more than 5 min. @792

my fcpga 500e used to run all day and night @ 840mhz on my old p3c2000, when it got recalled i got a p3v4x instead, and since then it will only do 740mhz (cause the 150/155/160/166 fsb's just don't work properly) so now i have to buy a new processor cause this fewlish mobo will just not let me run at 800mhz+ again :(

all u people with 500/550e's they are capable of 800mhz+ if ur running at less then u either have another component that is the problem, NOT the cpu, u don't even need a peltier to hit over 800mhz!!
if ur using a peltier (alphacowboy) then ur risking ur system because it just doesn't need it!!!!!!!
noticing alot of u use the p3v4x, this is the component that is not letting you overclock higher. i am being sent a cuv4x for test next week and hope to see how well it runs fsb's over 140 (where the p3v4x struggles). so ur p3's are capable of more mhz, so stop blaming the poor little cpu's, and start blaming via and asus, and that crappy clock generator.
the i815 might be a good chipset to try next, 133fsb and pc133 support, especially if it runs upto 170fsb as stably as the 1820 did (bar the faulty ones)

biohazard,
i had the same mobo as u and the highest bus speed i got working was 174fsb, which gave me 870mhz from my 500e (1.7v's) i have the si-soft benchmarks to prove it. if everyone here put their 500/550's on that mobo they are going to hit around the 900mhz mark. if only the memory speed was better on that mobo then i would have kept it, but 280/300 mb/s is a bit pooey for my system that does lots of file compressing/uncompressing and games. mem speed on my p3v4x is 380/427 and it will crunch seti units in 5hrs!!! the i820 used to take 6hrs 45mins.
u might have lots of mhz but u aint gonna be faster. (reason why i changed mine). Oh and btw u had better return ur p3c2000 cause its been recalled.

hmm my fingers feel tired now :)
