Thanks, just wasn't sure which way to go MSI or Asus ?

I would save money and get that MSI one at Walmart. Easy returns to any Walmart. And its $30 cheaper. I like MSI's no BS warranty too, when it comes to that. It exists even without registration, just from the cards birthdate. Obviously you'll have the receipt, but if you did sell it the warranty follows it without problem (supposedly). I've had good luck with nicer MSI cards, personally, although these should both be semi premium given their cost, IMO.

Thanks , didn't see that one at Walmart. I'm more about the performance than the bling with colored lights anyways. Then I have to upgrade the monitor, only running a 22" Samsung right now. Its funny I usually use Rtings.com for reviews, and I was a bit concerned about image Flicker, a lot of OLED panels tested poorly, but I looked today and all the flicker ratings are a ten out of ten. Something changed because most of the ratings were very poor. I was going to go with an IPS panel instead , just for stability.

A good monitor can make such a difference. The 32" IPS monitors are a sweet spot, imo.

But I did just get a shiny 34" Alienware widescreen OLED and it is nice. Especially for gaming. I think I still lean 4k IPS for text and work.

TBH, I only checked Walmart because I try to get my "NewEgg" purchases through them. NewEgg is a Walmart.com merchant but you can return to Walmart AND they are the ones that refund you quickly if that happens. I don't like shipping back to NewEgg and hoping A) it gets there and B)they don't fumble the return process somehow.

BTW this is the article I was talking about, theres a list there about half way down with some figures, and that 32 inch one I think is pretty high up on there ratings. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/learn/research/vrr-flicker

Unfortunately the biggest size I can fit is 27 inches, and even that will be a tight squeeze.

Sounds like they had to really poke the bear (ie, use a DX9 title) to induce the flicker. I haven't noticed it yet, and while I normally use Chill on Radeon to cap my frame rates (which leads to more stable framerates as a side effect, which would render this moot) the ol' 6800 isn't quite enough of a card to throttle down in Hell Divers 2 at the settings I want, so I am running it flat out between 55 - 70 fps (which with Free Sync is fine for me to enjoy a PVE game) so I'll be on the look out for it, lots of contrast in that game.

That 27" Dell IPS mentioned in that article as a benchmark though is likely to be a wonderful solution. I have nice Dell 27" IPS on my biking simulation rig (like $150 on a black friday deal), might be something available now, that I think is just great. It's only 75 hz but even that with Freesync helps a ton IMO. Higher being better, I get it.

The benchmark for a new monitor these days should be the Dell G2427D. Bought one last year as I was having trouble deciding on something high end, thought it would be good enough until I find something I really want. Since then I stopped looking, it's just a fine monitor.

The G2724D is $150 from Dell, 165Hz monitor with decent color gamut and very good brightness, adjustable stand. Contrast ain't a strong point as with all panels in this category, but the price makes up for that in spades. No HDR, none worth anyway. Any monitor that costs more than this needs to offer something you really want in return.

The OP may also want to check out the latest Monitors Uboxed guide, see what options for higher end units are out there -

Please come back and update us with your experience and conclusions after you get a chance to put your new parts through their paces :)

It’s such a great step up! 1050ti to 4070S! Boom!

Please consider another 16GB of ram, it will help too and there isn’t a better time to get that (or a full 32GB kit and just have the two sticks) done, either, in the twilight of DDR4.

Sigh, not the 25D. From the comments on the same page:

I guess Dell thought the 24D is too good for a budget unit, so they downgraded both the panel and the build on 25D.
Oh, super bummer. Crap. Missed that.

I mean the thread (that I just read, sigh) also mentions that the 25D in the hands of a couple owners is subjectively better for them. Probably some panel lottery mixed in to.

OP should give either monitor a go and see how it plays out, IMO.

Yep I will definitely let you know the results. I should probably give the PC interior a good cleaning while I'm at it. Glad I got the 24D, and I'll definitely look into more RAM as well. But probably after the holidays, I have to get a few gifts for others as well !

Thanks for posting this. I'd been casually looking for a 1440p monitor, and at $149 (on sale) I figured there's no harm in grabbing a S2725DS. If I don't like it much, it'll get handed down or act as a backup.

Sure, it's only 100Hz (variable), and it's basically budget business class, but I'm already gaming on one of their 1920x1200 business-class IPS's, so...

Whats your driver recommendations for the RTX 4070 Super ? I would imagine the Game Ready ones are the best , but which version is the most stable ? I want to download it before I do the install.

Sorry for the long absence, had some issues down in Florida from the last storm to take care of combined with Christmas, was a bit of a struggle. But got the new 4070 Super and Dell G2724D installed. Man its like watching a movie in the first 10 rows. I ran a benchmark in Assetto Corsa in the old 1680 x 1050 and again in 2550x 1440, and FPS was the same, no drops at all. I expected some dropoff because of the higher resolution but there was none at all. Replays are so much smoother now even with massive amounts of cars on screen.
In 3DMark graphics score for Time Spy was right around 20,000. I think the CPU is probably holding it back a bit now.
