What's 'dump the clutch' mean?

i've never heard "dump" the clutch.... i've heard drop the clutch... i bet they're the same though

when driving a manual car... you should ease off the clutch while slightly pushing the gas to go (duh)
but you could rev the engine up... over normal for starting level... then just let go of the clutch as fast as you can... usually get squeels and maybe some smokin tires... it's fun... but not to be done to look cool.... then you just become a h0m0

Dropping the clutch:

In 1st gear, with the clutch in, you hover the revs near the redline.

Then you release the clutch suddenly while you floor the accelerator.

The tires will break loose and spin.

Dropping and dumping the clutch are the same thing.

<< then you just become a :Q >>

Yes, if you?ve ever had a fortieth birthday, or if you?re driving something that?s under 2 liters (read: a Civic). 😉

So will your mechanic 🙂

when ya let off the clutch super fast,
when i do this in my big block Camaro it spins the tires, wthout reving the motor, very much,😀
when i would do that in my Honda CRX most of the time,it would stall,as i didn't have it reved up high enough,
if i reved the Honda to about 2,000 rpm first, it would spin the front tires OK,😉

then dont forget to speed shift.......by this you use the clutch just enough to get it to shift.............you either find the next gear or you find yourself walking home

Jen

Heh, when I was younger and more stupid I used to dump the clutch on deserted backroads near my house. I am SO glad my tranny is still working great. 🙂

<< then dont forget to speed shift.......by this you dont use the clutch at all just give the shifter a good yank .............you either find the next gear or you find yourself walking home >>

Speed shifting does indeed involve using the clutch. You just never let up on the gas as you clutch and shift as quickly as you can. During the process, as soon as you clutch, your revs shoot up and - BAM - you better damn well hit your next gear, you're right about that part, Jen! 😀

Well I don't know to drive a manual and I don't even own one, so no worry about dumping the clutch too many times or something. I've just heard kids in school talk about it and wondered.

It means get rid of her quick!

Get her out of your house, your mind and outta your life for good...

Oh, excuse me. I thought this was "What's 'dump the b1tch' mean" topic...

my bad...

Luckily I am my mechanic.

Is double clutching the same as speed shifting? I heard them say double-clutch in Fast and the Furious
