the Athlon MP has been out for like, months now... whas the holdup on gettin the desktop palomino out? I know it's coming out in October, but its seeming like a looooooooong wait...

As far as I know, the MP and regular desktop Athlon 4 are pretty much the same so therefore shouldnt the desktop version have been ready a long time ago? .

My guess is this:

MP = 1.2 GHz tops now
Desktop Athlon 4 = 1.53 at release

That may be why it is taking a while, but thats just speculation.

I read somewhere (Toms, I think) that AMD was having yield probs with anything over 1.4GHz. This is not good news. That means that the price of the new chips upon release may be a lot higher than initially forecasted. With the price of a 1.4GHz C Athlon at roughly $100....the temptation to upgrade now is getting to be unbearable.

You mean AMD is having problems reaching 1.5!!.Hell they lucky they got to 1.4. with all the heat the chips put out,no wonder we have a heat wave lol.set the EPA on them 🙂.

Ummm.....Palominos run cooler than Thunderbirds, so I don't think heat is their problem.

There has been people who oced their tbirds to 1.8 to 2 ghz so heat isnt it. I know the Athlon runs hot now, but Palomino solves this as well does Barton. AMD is pushing Barton + soi at 100% capacity in fab 30.

Venomous Knowitall,
Well, that's what I read...if I misquoted, then fine, I misquoted. So since I'm "hardly correct" why don't you enlighten us, o'knowledgeable one?😛

Hi Venomous. Maybe you can enlighten us on what AMD's yields are.

Btw, are you going to authorize my ICQ request. 🙂

Or are you just going to hang around here, so that you can tell me again how "For someone who works at Intel, you are about the dumbest mofo ive encountered on this BBS."

I think majewski9 is dead on when he says:

hey guys I think they want to coinicide wit h the XP launch. They want new systems out at the same time as XP.

Tom's hardware made a guess that the new Athlon will be called the AthlonXP, and someone in this forum said that WindowsXP was developed on Athlons. Sooooo, riding Microsoft's coattails would make for some much needed exposure for AMD. They will also have some ammunition when it comes to their Q4 marketing blitz as someone stated in this thread link

I heard that there is a problem with some VIA Northbridges and the Paliminos, which have delayed the launch. Dunno if it's true, only AMD knows wazzup.

i thought he was being sarcastic when he said that

but then again i thought the athlon4 was a joke... i guess anything is possible Oo;;
