Seconded the ASRock, it was the cheapest I was able to find, and excellent reviews as well, especially for the price. I think open box at newegg is still $115.

$118.
Just installed my open-box the other day, came with all the accessories and works like it should. OCing going well so far.
No-brainer to save $50 imho.

Nice thing about most of the ASRock boards is that the open box boards are from returns that people ended up thinking they have a bad board because they were putting the ram in the wrong slots.

That being said, I opted for a NIB one @ $159 FS. Last open box board I purchased from newegg had absolutely no accessories, and getting the backplate from ASUS cost me $20. Wasn't going to take that chance again.

The ASRock X58 Extreme I got open box at the egg had a dead memory channel. No matter what slots, dual channel only.

Same 920 and 3x2GB kit in a new board worked perfectly fine.

If you're going to buy a cheap board, I'd recommend either the Foxconn Flaming Blade instead, or don't buy open box for the ASRock.

My Asrock x58 Extreme Open Box arrived full retail and has been chugging away with all 6 memory slots full without a single issue so far.

Seriously, there is a motherboard called the "Flaming Blade?"

ya, but you pay for it with more VTT and lower OC :C

not everyone cares about absolute MAX oc though. Best MHz per $ can often be attained with "cheaper" parts and isn't too far off pace with "top tier" stuff.

The reason why I want the cheapest x58 motherboard right now is just to stick it in my ATX case right now until I see an x58 (or x68?) mATX motherboard with usb3 and SATA 6gbps. Basically, I can't wait to upgrade to an i7 processor, but I can wait to migrate to a SFF system.

3.33GHz @ 1.056v with 9GB of ram running at a whole 996MHz at 1.5v. I'm happy. (Haven't bothered to screw with any other settings... yet.)
