What's coming down the pipe?

I started working, so in a month or so I'll have money to upgrade my computer (older Abit mobo and Athlon XP 2000+ non Tbred/Barton). I was considering going P4, but I don't know if the $$$ is worth it. What technologies are coming down the pipe that I should look out for? What about updates on current technologies? Should 64-bit be considered for a home desktop/workstation? Thanks.

64-bit isn't a must-have right now, but could help down the road. PCI Express and the BTX form factor are the 'landmarks' I'll be waiting to get established before I build a new system. If you want to upgrade now, an nForce2 board and a 2500+ would be a cheap upgrade that should give you some breathing room expecially if you overclock the 2500+. If you have the money though (and nothing else to spend it on) go for a P4 and see what all the talk is about (I'm curious myself).
