What's causing lines on my screen?

Ok, this could be a long story if I eelaborate on the details, I will try to say the most in the fewest words possible.

I spilled over my laptop a few times in the past and I think it might have done something to the motherboard (or some other parts of the laptop) because it's causing lines on my screen. I tried to clean and dry up the internal parts but the problem persists. Now here is the interesting part, if I unplug the AC adapter the screen becomes normal but once I plug it in, the lines will get worse and worse (due to heat building up) I finally had enough of this last night and decided to investigate on this problem. I thought since this probably has something to do with GPU, I applied wet tissue on top of the GPU heatsink and gradually, the statics becomes less noticeable to a point that I can tolerate looking at it for hours. Now, I don't think the heatsink alone is enough to dissipate the heat, I want to know if it's possible to install a small fan on top of it? I am also going to reinstall the heatsink and I want to know the gel that's applied in btween the GPU and heatsink, what's it called?

Ok, I have the answer for my 2nd question. It's called "thermal paste" Stupid me.
