Hey guys so i'm thinkin of upgrading my memory on my computer. I have 1 gig of generic pc 3200. I'm thinkin of getting 2 gigs of crucial. Should I add the 2 gigs + 1 gig to equal 3 gigs or just leave it at 2 gigs and get dual channel? Also what ram would you suggest for around $200? thanks

I say don't mix...
Stay with 1GB of generic or go with 2GB of Crucial (or other quality brand). 3GB is pointless. You won't notice any difference and you'll kick yourself for falling for it.

getting anything more then 2GB is stupid cause current apps don't know how to utilize it. 2GB is the sweet spot. if you mix, get the same speed RAM or everything will run at the speed of the slowest RAM.

This might help the OP but I heard that if you fill every ram bank it slows down the system is this true? That is why if you have 4 ram banks you should get 2 x 1 gig sticks and only fill up two...
