I dont think either is worth the money, the 5500 256 cost as much as a 9600pro I think and why do you want a a 256 5500? the 128 cost 25-40$ cheaper and delivers the same performance.
if you absouletly had to choose between one or the other I would go with the 9000pro.

6200 and x300 are around 50 and both are way better than those cards. they can actually PLAY games.

9550 or 9600 pro depends on your budget

i think a 7800gtx should fit the budget.

I'd actually go with a Geforce 6200 IF you have the money. for its price, its a good card on its own, but if you OC it (which you can alot) then its alot better...if you're lucky, you can softmod it to a 6600 (which is awesome). plus it has Shader model 3.0...you really can't go wrong with it if you're on a budget
