Whats better?

I'm assuming the PCI express card is better.. but I'm not sure.

Anyone have a definitive answer?

Thanks.

PCI-E doesnt make something better yet......there is neglible difference in performance between a 6800GT AGP and a PCI-E one....

the two cards your comparing are totally different tho, one is barely a DX8 card, the other is a DX9 but with very low clocks and pipes.....

my 4200Ti was a nice little performer with only 64mb...on older games i'd imagine it'd have better framerates than the newer X300SE.....but on newer games it might fold up a little.......

thing is, you either have a AGP based system or a PCI-E system..... so comparing those cards is pointless...if your AGP based you need the 4200, if ur PCI-E based you need the X300SE..

my advice, whichever you have, AGP or PCI-E, save up and get a 6600GT 🙂

(btw, your not confusing PCI-E with PCI are you? honest question, i see your a golden member here so i'd assume you know, but just asking in case...)

Not confusing the two.

My current Dell has a 4200 in it (AGP).. I just bought a new Dell with the PCI-E card in it (which I will upgrade eventually). I just wanted to see if the performance will be about the same or better. I was pretty happy with the 4200.

Old system: 2.53/512/4200 AGP
New system: 3.2/512/PCI-E x16

Thanks..

Please, PLEASE tell me you're not seriously asking this question... The X300SE is a hell of a lot slower than the Ti4200. The interface is irrelevant. Compare benches between an R9200SE and a Ti4200 if you want to know how much worse it is.

just find some benches like Tom's vga charts that have the 4200 and the 9600SE. That should give you an idea.

The X300SE is really just a 9600SE with a PCI-E interface.
