What's better? TNT-2 or Voodoo3

Just wanted opinions on what would be better for my system. I am currently running a Celeron 433 w/ 96 megs of ram, and an 8mb (AGP) ATI Xpert Pro video card. I am looking at the TNT-2 Pro which has 32 megs of ram, vs. the Voodoo3 w/ 16 megs of ram. They are both about the same price. I am not sure which to go with. Any advice would be great.

You are getting a seriously crappy deal if you are paying as much for a V3 as a TNT2-Pro

the V3 does a better job at games like UT and Deux Ex, but doesn't support 32-bit color or large textures, so it does a pretty crappy job on most OpenGL games. The TNT2 does a decent job, but doesn't really have the speed to handle 32-bit OpenGL. The TNT2's 2d sucks royally if you have a large monitor, the V3 is okay.

Regardless, you can get the V3-2000 for under $70, then you can get a $30 coupon. One of the best deals going these days.

I have a tnt2 ultra and I am generally satisfied with it.I play half-life and counterstrike and I get anywhere from 20-60 fps at 1024x768. I run a PIII 450 and 128 mb with it

The TNT2 is a much better card. The V3 suffers from horrible fuzzy images because it doesn't have 32 bit colour or large textures. The TNT2 will help you run higher resolutions better because of its better fillrate and greater VRAM.

Plus you get better/faster drivers from nVidia.

RoboTECH,

How could I get a hold of this coupon for $30 off the V3 2000 that your talking about? Is it a mfr.'s coupon or some other deal?

I don`t know what version of the TNT2 the pro is it sounds like some cheap version like the m64 and that is just not a high performing card. If it is your better of with the v3

There is no 64 version of the TNT2-pro.
If the choice is between a V3-2K or 3K and a TNT2-Pro I'd take the TNT any day.
It will outperform the V3 in most games cept Unreal engine based ones, it has a better feature set, and better drivers.
Also, 2D quality depends on what brand it is, some have crappy quality, some have good, but I wont say much about that since Ive never been able to tell the difference between different cards in 2D, and this includes going from a G200 Millenium to a TNT(V550) and then to a i752, all on a pretty decent 19" monitor.

I have both on 2 different systems on 19" monitors and in most game playing you don't see much difference. We switch players without noticing any penalty. Maybe in Porsche Unleashed ... the quality is better, but you have to be looking for the quality difference and not focusing on the game. The Voodoo is friendly to more games it seems, but the frame rates will be lower and you have lower quality ... which may or may not be noticeable. You'll get better benchmarks on the TNT. A 3rd system has a Velocity 100 with a TMU registry hack and I play on it ... and I still get my licks in on UT. I think it's a toss up.

Get the G400! It's faster than the TNT2 Pro, and Voodoo 3 (except glide). It's got the best Image quality of all the comsumer videocards in the world. If you get a OEM single head version, it'll be a bit more expensive than the V3 3000. If you get a retail Dualhead, it'll be as much as the TNT2-pro.

Both the OEM and retail easily overlclock to max speeds if they have the max's 5ns ram (90% of the retails do, all OEMS do).

I got my OEM G400 for 150 candian (about $100 US) from a store.
